I wasn't debating that - what I didnt agree with was his decision to use a live aid concert as his own person soapbox.

I think it was Mike Myers who said "Cut now" ...
He said it with such a straight face.....I had to laugh at Mike Myers expression even though its not a laughing matter at all, because it was pure disbelief and shock.
I agree that it was the wrong forum to do it. he could went on radio or in print and said his feelings, but I didnt like the spin he put on it.
I may not be happy with the way Bush is reacting to this, but I feel none of us know the entire truth or story yet and will save my judgements till all the people are safe and then the media and us citizens can critize, but lets get people safe first.....

They said on the news that 67 % of the people there are BLACK, Thats why the news is mentioning it!

I don't know if this based on fact or not, but this is what a Professor of mine decided to share yesterday:
He was discussing the fact that virtually everyone shown on TV was black because they were the poor people in N.O. He claimed that anyone who could afford a car, or even bus/train tix, got out of there BEFORE the storm hit, EXCEPT for the poor people. He feels that the general public is being made to believe that N.O. is full of all poor, black people, and that truly isn't the case. He claims we're just not seeing anyone else because they were able to afford escape pre-storm.
Just thought I'd add- I'm not really sure how I feel about it right now.

I'm sorry but I saw it and it was a totally ignorant comment. Here you have all these celebrities coming together to raise money to save people lives and he rambles on about "his people", getting his business manager to donate all the money he can, how black people are considered looters but white people are picking out stuff and then Pres Bush hates black people.
The last thing we need right now is to make this a black/white thing. Personally I believe if that this was mostly white poverty stricken people that this would be the same way it is. I really am mad at that jerk. 
i have to agree! this was neither the time, nor the place to voice his opinion!!

I think that his statements were totally inappropriate at the time and on that show/concert. Its not the time for him to start talking about racisim. That concert was done to bring people together and help pepole in NO. His statements were not helpful.
I so agree. It's supposed to be about love of eachother. not get people riled up w/ hate!!

i have to agree with you on that one. To be completely honest, I can't really watch too much of the tv coverage because I feel helpless in this situation. I just donated all of my extra paycheck money to another (local) cause, and when I watch Katrina coverage, I feel guilty for not helping.

I guess I feel like it was a strong forum. It was a show about support and awareness. I think he said what a lot of people are thinking. I think he had a huge audience, and time is running out. I think he wanted to put people on the spot and call them out.

I guess that is what makes Freedom of Speech a catch 22. Good for him to say it because we all know, whether we agree or not, it is an issue. Where he said it, eh. It seemed like a classier venue than MTV, but again, it took some balls to say it.

Well, you do have a point, but as someone who has difficulty voicing issues and concerns over things, I see it as having balls. He's ******, and I think pure frustration led him to saying it. Whether the frustration stems from not being able to really read the teleprompter or rather stemming from his anger at the situation, it still sounded like a person frustrated with the way things were going.

What does that mean? Him making an outrageous comment is getting him the publicity not the hurricane
