Wow- I called this one...
I used to care for an 89 year old man, who had Parkinson's - whose wife had died about 2 years ago. My SIL's mom was a good friend of theirs and took care of both of them for over 20 years (starting out as a gal friday kind of thing... and leading into healthcare- she was the only one they trusted as they never had children). She was like a daughter to them. After his wife died she knew he needed 24/7 care and asked myself and a handful of other people to come and stay overnight with him, day shifts, etc... and one of the women she asked I knew was trouble from the start. To make a long story short- she's in her early 60's and not married. She flirted with him and toyed with him and he fell for it and fired EVERY SINGLE one of us, one by one, with my SIL's mom being the last- for no valid reasons. I just found out yesterday that she married him in August, and he died in October. She got EVERYTHING! His own lawyer, who he's known forever, made him get a psychiatric evaluation b/c he thought he was crazy for jumping into this. He fired the lawyer also and had someone else marry them. Here's the really twisted part. She had an antique dealer/appraisor come into his house and appraise everything- she sold off what she could and kept telling the antique dealer that he had no other family left. She had him throw out ALL of this man's person stuff--- his law degree, his wife's law degree, etc... He has family left. His niece lives in NJ and used to come to visit fairly frequently until this woman came into the picture- then she stopped being invited. The dealer knew something wasn't right and took it upon himself to find the niece's phone # and tried her- and he was the one who told her that her uncle had died. He was deathly afraid of water- he wouldn't ever go swimming, or take baths---- she had him cremated and threw his ashes out to sea. I am not one to wish bad things on people, but I only hope that she fully realizes someday what an awful thing she's done. I have been sick to my stomach all weekend thinking about this. I saw it coming, but there was nothing that anyone could do. My SIL's mom even warned the niece, but he was proven to be lucid... he just didn't see it.

You know, I know these kinds of people exist in our world--- but I've never seen someone so vicious and blatently out for money in real life... It's heartbreaking.

That's what my husband said. He said someday she'll be judged for what she's done... I just feel terrible for him. I had gotten him 2 kittens that Christmas b/c his cat had just died and he was SO depressed (we talked about it ahead of time and he went with me to get them). They were like his children. I keep wondering what happened to them, b/c she had her own cats- so I'm sure they moved in and the other cats are long gone.
