Wow--I have 1 million left for medical bills
So I checked our benefit info online and there was a note next to our deductibles. Since the lovely Taylor Chase cost us almost 950k, our health insurance company gave me a lifetime benefit max of 2 million they are willing to pay towards my medical benefits...yup all my medical bills better come under the remaining 1million payable or they are out of my pocket for the rest of my life...doubt it will be a problem unless I get pregnant again and have a high risk pregnancy or terminal illness. I never knew there was a limit

wow, on the flip side it's a blessing that you had insurance....God willing you won't ever need to reach your limit.

You never know- that 1 million sounds like a lot of lifetime, but god forbid...
Hopefully if some of the changes Obama wants to make goes through, they won't be able to do lifetime max!

Yikes, that stinks! I certainly hope you never need to use that much again but here's to you getting some better insurance! Most company sponsered plans do not have a lifetime maximium.

That is awful, and frankly it is unfair. Health insurance is not free. You or your employer pay for coverage but the ins. companies always make sure not to have to pay too much out. The insurance companies create their own loopholes.

Re: Wow--I have 1 million left for medical bills
Curious is that yearly or truly lifetime?
Since it was birth that took most of it, why can't you get other insurance down the road?
$1-$2 just isnt enough for a true 'lifetime'.
Something seems odd.
Here's to ALWAYS having a happy and health life because at the end of the day we all hope for that!

Re: Wow--I have 1 million left for medical bills
I agree, doesn't really sound correct (for a lifetime). Plus what if you get another company or something

Re: Wow--I have 1 million left for medical bills
Actually $1 million is the "norm", I have seen some as high as $2mil. Most plans have caps on their benefits.
ETA: Most people wont even come close to that, even fighting cancer or a serious illness. Also take into consideration that you will likely not have that insurance coverage for the rest of your life, (i.e. changes jobs, plans, etc...).

Its for that specific plan. If we were to go to another plan its not an issue but if the next job I go to has UHC I'd still be limited under their plan.

Well we came close with a pregnancy so 1 million is not that much. We had 271 claims from 11 doctors, Matria etc so its not as high as anyone may think.

ITA... My brother hit his 1 million dollar lifetime limit 2 weeks before his death.. thank goodness his insurance kicked over to the HMo plan after he reached it... Trust me you never now what can happen... It was almost a year that it took to get there....
Thank goodness for insurance coverage..
