Lots of RI schools cancelling school tomorrow...due to heat!

I wish they would cancel it here! My poor kids were so hot when they got home. I have to work until 2 tomorrow - then I am picking them up early.

I rmember when we were in school, our school did not have A/C...and it still does not!
I hope they let the kids out early at least...having to climb the stairs to the 3rd floor, with no A/C is a nightmare!

There's no ac in my kid's school. My son and daughter's classrooms are upstairs so it is like an oven.

i keep hearing about no ac's in class rooms. i know in my schools every room had one. krys came home complaining about how hot her classrooms are and it worries me because of her asthma. but yet some rooms are. i feel exspecially on days like this at least put fans in the rooms that do not have ac's but untill a child gets real sick they will not do a darn thing. which is very sad to even think about

In my old district there are still no AC's in the classrooms - but there are AC's in the administrative offices. Not fair at all.
There were no snowdays taken this year in my old district - they should take a heat day.

it's too expensive, i guess... and i would rather they give the kids a day off then raise my taxes 
i went through 12 years of school with no a/c, i didn't suffer any long-term ill effects

Maybe because these kind of heat waves are more rare in the northeast for our school year - September through June.....

yes but some schools in the NE have A/C. I guess they're newer, so that's how they build them now.
don't forget about summer school. my sister used to teach summer school every year but nearly passed out 2 years ago on a very hot day. so she doesn't do it anymore.

My oldest DS stayed home and my dd came home with a headache. My youngest ds toughed it out, but said the second floor was so hot. They sent so many kids home, some classes were left with only a handful of kids.

We had regular classes today.
I am on the second floor with no AC. We used a thermometer and it measured 96 degrees in my classroom this afternoon.
There was a HUGE difference between downstairs and upstairs.
I was such a miserable b!tch today.
It was, in no way, shape, or form a productive day today. With finals coming up, yesterday and today were such wastes of time.

Our AC was broken, and it was boiling in the rooms upstairs (90 degrees +)
We spent the whole day shuffling kids around to various rooms on the first floor (cafeteria, gym, etc).
Today sucked.

My school was closed today. We never got back our snow days so I guess they figured we were owed. On top of that, the middle schools and high schools have very inconsistent AC....the kids would move from one room that was steaming hot, into another room freezing cold - could not have been good.
