WR: Recent-ish brides and grooms..If you were way under your minimum
Did you hall let you put that money toward an upgrade, or did you just have to pay for empty seats?
HATING FH's family right now since NONE of them are showing up.
So sad.

If you are pretty sure, let your hall know ASAP that looks like you wont be making your minimum. The earlier the better for them working with you. We knew about 6 weeks prior that we would be about 25 people shy of our minimum. We asked about what we could do. They worked with us. Of course what we paid per plate did not change, but they gave us an extra station for cocktail hour, allowed us to 'add on' the ice cream bar for desserts (which we already had planned on having, but they didn't end up charging us for that in our last payment.) and a few other things.
But, we did get married 5 years ago. So I doubt this makes me a recent bride. But I assume that business hasn't changed.

SO stressed Kelly. No joke!
I emailed the BM about 3 weeks ago. In the interim I sent out 30 more invitations to co-workers etc. Well now we have more unexpected no's from FH's family and family friends so we're back where we started.
I'm hoping they'll let me add something. I never heard back from the BM. I'll have to try calling him.

We had to pay. My hall didn't offer ANYTHING extra for any reason. :(

We were a few people short last minute so there wasn't time to negotiate. They did give us the extra dinners though

I was under and got nothing for it. Maybe like 10 under. We just ate the money.

we were under our minimum and our hall threw in a chocolate fountain and ice cream station for dessert to cover the costs. all you have to do is ask them!

We were about 10-15 under and we didn't have to pay for those people.

Whatever, you know the drill. FH's "family" strikes again.
Unfortunately it's too many people for me to ask you to give the blowtorch treatment to

Re: WR: Recent-ish brides and grooms..If you were way under your minimum
We were at least 25 people under our minumum (almost $4000). We had some other issues with the hall so I think because of that they were willing to bend over backwards for us. We got a raw bar at the CH out of it.

Hey if you are pressed for attendees, I'll come
Seriously, I can't believe his family is doing this to you. I guess they don't care about how much they are hurting your fiance (and how they are cutting off any future children you two have). Vicious, spiteful people

This is not too encouraging. I really hope they're willing to do something. It's going to be like $3500-4000

I'm SOOOO upset. FH is being very stoic about it, which makes me MORE upset sometimes...
His dad passed away last year and literally not one single person from his dad's side is coming. NOT ONE PERSON. A lot of them *are* OOT, but even the ones who live relatively close (Westchester) are not coming.
Weddings we JUST went to out of town though we could little afford the time or expense are not coming. They just checked off the box on the RSVP< no note, no excuse. I heard it might be because the wife has to work, but I work on Sundays too. I had to leave my Special needs children without me for their wedding (If anyone knows special needs children, a break in their routine is big, so I don't take missing class lightly), and FH and I both had to cancel tutoring assignments. ON TOP OF THAT, my mom rescheduled my shower for this wedding, so of course she is livid too.
I don't know what's wrong with people.
Maybe they can't handle the fact that we're interfaith?

Re: WR: Recent-ish brides and grooms..If you were way under your minimum
I had about 20 people with last minute I got the flu excuses. All from DH's side.
My catering hall split the difference with me.
How about negotiating for half or something like that?
I started to realize early that people were not coming. I kept in touch with the caterers to let them know that most likely my 170 guarantee was going to be 140. Then the night before the wedding 20 people didn't show. I had one table with 3 people at it.
