Wrist Pain - SPR
In the last month I've had a lot of pain in my wrists. I think it has to do with lifting my son. It is primarily right around that ball thing near the wrist and extending along that outer bone about midway up my lower arm (both arms). It's so sore all the time.
Anyone know what I can do for it? Is there a particular type of doctor I should see for something like this. It doesn't necessarily prevent me from doing things...I can still lift the same weight I always could before. I just seem to be in chronic pain.
I'm fairly sure this isn't carpal tunnel because i did experience a mild case towards the end of my pregnancy and afterwards. This pain isn't on the underside of my wrist and up my arms like I beleive carpal tunnel would be.
TIA!

Re: Wrist Pain - SPR
You need a massage 1st to see if it helps.
I get it all the time due to my work involving working with my hands
The muscles to hold your wrist "straight" (up or down!) and moving your fingers are in your forearm.
ETA: A dr./orthopedist can do a couple of tests to see if it's carpal tunel syndrome.

Re: Wrist Pain - SPR
ganglion cyst
it's in the joint .... no way to really get rid of it except warm compresses and rest.
I had it for about 3 months after I gave birth and it just subsided eventually.

Re: Wrist Pain - SPR
Welcome to the world of deQuervains tendonitis. I had a cortisone shot for it at 6 months PP. That of course was after the splint that immobilized it for 4 months. The cortisone shot helped for @ 1 1/2 months. Now, I just deal with it. The MD that I saw, said they could give me a second cortisone injection if it got bad again, I just haven't bothered. After that the only remedy is surgery.

Re: Wrist Pain - SPR
this sounds like the perfect excuse to get a massage
I've been trying to actaully massage it myself but obviously I'm not trained so I might not even be helping myself.
Thanks for the responses. I'm definately going to look into all of these things and probably go see a doc.

Re: Wrist Pain - SPR
Don't let it go. I let wrist pain go for over a year until it got to the point that I couldnt' hold a drink without a lot of pain.
Turns out I did tendon damage by waiting.

I remember after I had DS i could barely hold a pen..i had absolutely no strength. That went away. This pain is a little different as it extends to my arm too.
But advice taken, I actually just made an appt with an orthopedist. A lot of advise on-line suggests rest as being a good remedy. Doubt my son would like that though.

Re: Wrist Pain - SPR
I had a brace I had to wear for 10 days - even when I slept. It helped with the inflammation.
Mine goes down the outer bone of my arm now.
Is it worse at certain times of the month? My orthopedist mentioned estrogen & cycle is a big factor.

YES - outer bone of the arm is exactly what it is!
I don't notice it being at cyclical but quite frankly my cycle is completely messed up since March (thank you depo) so I couldn't even tell you if there is a correlation.
