WW ladies - required oil's

I think I already know the answer to this question... But those 2 oils they tell you to have every day - those count toward points, right?

If so, that blows :( Cuz 2 tbs of olive oil is 4 points.

wah :(

Unfortunately yes. I never did really get those into my day...the only way was to make my own vinegrette using oil and vinegar and I don't want to eat that everyday Chat Icon

Re: WW ladies - required oil's

it's funny you put this topic today because I was just thinking about how I can maybe throw that in my food and eat it...i suppose it would'nt be too bad on rice Chat Icon

ets: if you're on core you don't have to count it if it's olive, cannola, safflower Chat Icon

Re: WW ladies - required oil's

I'm doing points...

it just sucks that it's 4 points! That's a huge amount of points when you only get 22 :(

It's day 2 and i already hate dieting :(

Oh poo you are not hating it! Wait 5 more days before you say that...when you see the loss on the scale you won't be saying that anymore!

Yeah 4 points of 22 is pretty rough Chat Icon I dunno, that oil thing only came up a couple of years ago. I would ask at the next meeting if it's necessary for you

ets: found this on the ww forums

The oils are important. Oil is great on rice!! Many of the vitamins are fat soluble. You won't get the full benefit of the vitamins without fat to dissolve them.

You might lose some hair if you avoid them frequently.

I find that things get a little...um...backed up when I don't have my oil. It also helps your hair. And the last poster is right...you can't metabolize the vitamins without some fat.

You can add it to some things and not even notice a taste difference. Some add it to smoothies, oatmeal, drizzle on veggies, etc.

This may sound weird, but I've added it to a glass of ff milk and drank it. I couldn't tell the oil was in it.

Oil is mandatory and necessary for lots of bodily functions. I eat my oil from a spoon so I don't worry my pretty little head over how much I put into recipes.

Thanks! I'll do that. For today I might just try to make some vinegarette and put it on a lot of salad (no points - wee!)

Re: WW ladies - required oil's

Ok, I can be totally wrong here, but I am sitting here reading the getting started book and it is not 2 TABLESPOONS of healthy oil, it is 2 TEASPOONS of healthy oil (see page 27 of getting started under oils and also page 39 under quick tips in getting started.) 1 teaspoon is 1 point so it is only 2 points to get in your oils, not 4.

I get 20 points and I hate giving up 2 pts on just oil, so I don't (sssshhhhh- I am really putting an effort in to ATTEMPT following the 8 healthy guidelines . . . .)

I am going to give advice to you that my leader gives to us. Sometimes if you try to follow all 8 guidelines off the bat, it can get discouraging and you might give up. Try incorporating one each week until you are doing all or most of them.

I also want to add that I made lifetime and lost 27 pounds 2 years ago (and gained 20 of it back between HM and the first year of marriage, but I have lost about 17 pounds of it, thank goodness) and I did not religiously follow all 8 of the guidelines. I am not trying to encourage you to do the wrong thing, but just to do the best that you can without hating the program. Rome wasn't built in a day and I think for starting, just focusing on points for now is a great start and a big accomplishment.Chat Icon

Re: WW ladies - required oil's

Biranne you're right it's 1 pt per teaspoon. I thought that's what it was but I was too lazy to look lol

Re: WW ladies - required oil's

more info:

There are 5 oils that WW allows for the recommended 2 tsps per day... olive, canola, flaxseed, sunflower, and safflower. I use olive and canola oils, and it just depends on what I'm making as to which one I use. Canola is flavorless, and can be cooked at a higher temp that olive oil, so keep that in mind.

Here are some ideas for using your oils:

Oil & vinegar salad dressing (or add 1 tsp of oil to a FF dressing you like)

Saute your veggies or meats in oils.

Roast veggies in your oils.

Drizzle oil on popcorn. I make lunchbag popcorn, which is cheap and delicious.

Scramble your eggs in oil.

Cook your grains with a little oil, like rice or couscous.

Drizzle oil over pasta.

Dip bread in olive oil and herbs.

If you really have trouble getting your oil in (not a problem for me), put a flavorless oil in a smoothie or in your oatmeal.

Here's what WW says about the oils:

Why is 2 tsp of oil each day recommended for both the Core Plan and the Flex Plan?

The oils - olive, canola, safflower, sunflower, or flaxseed oil – are recommended as they are a good source of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. The inclusion of 2 tsp per day helps ensure that these nutritional needs are met. Oil capsules, vitamin E supplements, or seeds (flaxseeds) cannot be substituted. While those on the Core Plan should include 2 tsp of oil each day, those on the Flex Plan will need to count 2 tsp of the recommended oils as part of their weekly POINTS Allowance.
