WW question...

I'd like to start WW. I looked online and it looks like there are different meeting packages. What do must of you do--pay for each meeting at a time, or buy a package of meetings? TIA.

Re: WW question...

You can go to Meetings soemwhere. If you join a meeting group, they will give you a code so you can also join online (cheaper than if you did it just online). Normally it's 1x per week in the same location. If you miss a meeting you can weigh in anywhere WW is (another meeting, a WW location, etc).

Or you can just join online for a set price and do it online.

Is that what you were asking? I was a little confused.

Thanks, it said something online like if you pay for one meeting it is I think $13, or you can pay for 9 meetings for $109 (or something), 20 for $200...Something like that. I was wondering if people paid the weekly amount or bought a package.

Oh Ok, I don't know about that. We do it at work and it's only a 12 or 13 week program for one set price. I'm not sure what they do on the "outside" world, but I would be interesting in finding out also ... Is the program repetitive after a few weeks?
For our 12/13 week program, week 1 is introcution to WW, week 2 is portion control, week 3 is activity points, so and and so forth.

I would like to know what comes after ...

If you join at a meeting, you pay a weekly fee - in this area, it is probably $12 or 13, depending on location. They also charge a registration fee, but I think they are having free registration right now.

After you join, you can pay weekly, and you get 3 "missed meeting" passes for the first 26 weeks you are a member. This means you can miss up to 3 meetings in that 26 weeks without paying (like if you are on vacation, or something comes up.) If you are on the program longer than 26 weeks, these are renewed for the next 26 weeks.

They have pre-paid packages that you can purchase and these usually have a slight discount to them. They usually have a 10-week package that saves you about $1 a week and you get coupons that you give them when you weigh in. I was buying these, because I had a significant amount to lose (still do) and since I paid in advance, it was more of an incentive to make it there. It also was easier to just hand over the coupon, and why not save a few $, if you are paying anyway. In our meeting center, they were running a promotion that you could get a monthly pass. I am not sure they still offer this, but this is what I have now. You pay $45 a month and it covers the weekly fee and you get etools, the online program too. So basically, I am getting access to everything on the website for free and still save a little bit.

If you join online, you are basically paying to use everything on the website, which is what etools is for meeting members. People who go to weekly meetings have to pay extra to use everything on the website. there are a lot of areas that are free - some of the recent recipes, message boards, etc. but most of the "meaty" areas of the site can only be accessed if you are an online member or have etools.

i like the meetings and I have never been successful when I tried to do it on my own, but some people don't like the meetings. I did shop around for a leader that I liked and there are some very non-inspirational ones out there!

As for after week 15, you sometimes get program materials in meetings, if it is relevant to the topic they are talking about (like worksheets and stuff) but for the most part, you are just using the stuff you got the first 15 weeks. They do introduce new topics each week, but when you are going for a LONG time (like me....) they do repeat some topics, but usually it's a while before they repeat. When they do update the program (usually in Jan.) you do get all the new material that the new members get. Hope that helps! Some of my info may be dated, but I have been going for a while and this is what I know about the program. It really does work if you follow it the way you should.

One other thing I wasnted to add, I have been going to the same meeting for a long time and now know several people in the meeting. These people are sometimes just as inspirational as the leader (or even more!) We have a lot of "big losers" in our group and they often have great ideas and suggestions for the rest of us.

Thanks so much! This was so helpful. So you've been successful with it? I'm hoping it gives me the kick in the @ss I need--I know I will need to be self-motivated, but need some help!

I was successful at losing for a while and then ......I got married Chat Icon

I lost about 35 pounds, but have gained back about 13 since getting married in Nov. 2004. I have still been going and gaining and losing the same 5 pounds, but was afraid if I quit completely I would have gained it all back, like I did in the past.

Now, with the new year, I am trying really hard to get back on track. I really got away from journalling what I eat, which was one of the reasons I got the etools - it has helped keep me honest to track it online. I am also trying to not be so influenced by what DH is eating. I also fell into the trap of bringing snacks into the house with the excuse that I was getting them for him, when really, I was getting them for myself. Chat Icon

I like the leader at my meeting and have made friends with a few people who are lifetime members who still go every week. As I said before, if you go to a meeting and don't like the group or the leader, try another one. I have been to meeting sin the past, where I sat there and thought, "this is a complete waste of time." One or two of the meetings I went to were weird and cliquey. But the meeting I go to now gives me lots of ideas and encourages me to keep trying.
