WWYD - When to Switch Daycares (nothing bad happening!)

Hi Guys -

I want your opinions on this.

When DC#2 comes along, I still plan on working part time. DD's current daycare which I love, does not take infants part time. So, I have to switch her to a place where both kids can go.

I talked to the Ped about preparing DD#1 for a sibling and he said that major changes (big girl bed, potty training, etc...) require a 2 month transition period.

I would be on mat leave until the beginning of August. Would you switch daycares in February so she can transition before the new baby comes, or wait until June, two months before the new baby would be going as well. I hope that made sense!

Thanks!!

Personally (with no experience. lolChat Icon ) I would do June. then she can finish up her "school year" and switch for camp or whatnot at the new place.

Re: WWYD - When to Switch Daycares (nothing bad happening!)

I took AJ into a new daycare when I moved to TX.

2mo is a good range for transition but it may take longer. AJ was still reaching for us in month 3. She wasnt crying as much but she wasnt 100% at home until 3 solid months in.

I think that Feb is a better idea for EVERYONE to be on schedule. Those last few months of pregnancy are going to be challange anyway it would be more stress at a bad time to deal with a new daycare for YOU.

Plus (i only have one but..) wouldnt the impending birth that far along almost feel like you were switching her out of daycare as a reprecussion or cause/effect?

I say do it earlier as if its no big diff. Just something that has to be done. Before the stress of the new baby is too great.

I voted June just seems like it will be less stressful because by June she'll have had some time to adjust to the new baby

My gut is Feb so that she thinks of it independently of the baby and doesnt associate the baby with uprooting her, KWIM?

I would agree, otherwise, it will be just one more thing that changed "because of the baby" in her eyes

As a daycare mom I would say to switch her as soon as possible. In pre-school there are no "school years" like in an elementary schools.
She should be transitioned prior your giving birth and the baby coming.
