WWYD - Work and Mother's Day?
I posted here since this is about moms and working on Mother's Day.
A little background, I plan on resigning from this job on Monday and give 2 weeks notice. Let's say, this place is nuts.
In the meantime, I had asked to leave 3 hours early on Mother's Day. This will be my FIRST Mother's Day. I thought I was being accomodating by not taking the whole day off.
Now, they just told me that they can't really accomodate me. They have mothers themselves, blah blah blah. I repeated calmy that it was my FIRST Mother's Day.
I am honestly NOT going to ruin my first Mother's Day for a job I am resigning from for other reasons.
So, I had planned on giving 2 weeks notice. So far I had asked to leave at 3pm. BY MIRACLE, a client booked me (a "request) until 4pm. I never had this client before and she only came once to my work.... yes, sounds fishy. So now I would work until 4pm. But they did not block the rest of my day. So I could possibly work until 6pm.
WWYD? Resign and not go to work on Mother's Day? Forget about Mother's Day? Any other suggestions?
FYI.... I hate that place. I did not want to burn bridges but I don't think I ever want to work for them again.

That's a tough one. Do you need to use them as a reference? If not, then I would continue to tell them that you are not working past a certain time on Mother's Day and that is it. If you do need them as a reference, I would probably suck it up and work.

I do not need them as a reference. I already have another job lined up. They are just waiting for me. There are also starting to get a very bad rep for their employees.
Let's say, 9 people left in the last 5.5 months. They are losing me and 2 others massage therapists in the next 2 weeks. They just don't know it yet.

i would stick to your guns and leave at 4pm. you will never get your first mother's day back. the worst thing they could do is fire you, right?

Then I would repeat to them that you aren't working past 3 pm on Mother's Day and leave at that time. I would say call in sick but that might put someone else out.

I agree, although I'd probably say you can only work until 3pm as you previously mentioned. How annoying
