I am looking to move on from my current employment. I have sent out my resume countless times to companies and got a call back from a job that I am interested in. The commute is MUCH better. The job is local, but the pay is the same. I was looking for more money.

Would you go on the interview?

I would definitely go. Maybe you'll find out something about the comapny that makes it worth it even if its not more $$. And the only down side is the time you spend at the interview - if they offer you the job, you can always turn it down if you find that its just not what you were looking for.

I always feel each interview is a learning experience. Even if the job doesn't turn out to be what you are looking for, chances are you will learn something from the process.
Go and hope for the best.

I think it's worthwhile to go.

Many jobs offer perks that are sometimes better than money. (i.e. flex schedule, working from home).

And, many places there are opportunities to advance and/or make more money, but you would need to go to the interview to learn this ;).


Finally, IMO, sometimes just moving on, even if the salary is the same, may have a world of positive for a variety of reasons depending on your situation.

Also just chiming in to say that while the salary may be less than what you expected, consider that you will be saving on commuting costs (be it gas, train fare, etc.) and probably other less obvious ways too (e.g., getting home earlier to make dinner which is less expensive than take out or going out to eat).

And regardless of how the money shakes out, I am a big believer that sometimes you have to make some financial tradeoffs to gain quality of life things (like less stress, more job satisfaction, more time with family), and the quality of life stuff is often MORE valuable (as long as the money component is enough to live on). At least they were to me!

Go, you can always negotiate salary and if it doesn't work out you don't accept.

Also keep in mind there are other savings... the cost of commuting, are their benefit costs less, how is their 401k contribution. It all adds up!
