WWYD? Another parking related post

DH and I have been living in our current house for just over 3 years now. When we bought the house, we knew that the neighbor had an upstairs tenant. Whatever, no big deal, very quiet. About 2 years ago, they added a basement tenant. Another quiet older man, no complaints. Well, within the last week, they have rented out a room in their house now! This tenant won't stop parking in front of our house. I know that some people don't see what the big deal is, but to me, it drives me nuts! They have 2 cars themselves, and now 3 tenants with cars. They don't use their driveway. At all. Would you approach your neighbor and ask them to ask their new tenant to park elsewhere? Our relationship with them has always been cordial. I know it's a public street, but then at least park in your damn driveway, KWIM??

I would absolutely approach them. That is horrible that they even allow that.

Public street or not, I am pretty sure there are regulations when it comes to renting. Are the apartments legal? That would annoy me to no end. If you feel comfortable saying something I would, otherwise call your town for more information.

Yes, it may be annoying, but if these neighbors are people you are going to live next door to for quite some time, I wouldnt say anything.... Why create a stir when you can just walk a couple extra feet from another parking space... think of it as extra exercise Chat Icon

PS: I used to live in the Bx and I was lucky if I ever even got a spot on my BLOCK... most of the time I was parked on the next block... so it could be worse Chat Icon

i would absolutely say something. and most likely, one or 2 of the apartments are illegal. they won't want any trouble if they have illegal apartments.

I wouldn't say anything. As someone else mentioned, you may be living next to them for a long time. Good neighbors are always good to have. You never know when you may need them. And think of it as added security when you are not home to have this car parked in front of your home.

Thanks for all your responses. It is a hard call, because like a PP said, we don't want to ruffle feathers, but, on the other hand, why should we have to deal with losing a space in front of our house because of all their tenants? I would *imagine* that the two apartments are legal, however, I doubt the room is. It's just the fact that they aren't using their driveway that is really irking me.

I would be annoyed too! I wouldnt say anything because I am too shy but I would want too! Hopefully you have more guts than me and you can talk to your neighbor about this. I used to have a tenant from 2 blocks away from me park in front of my house which was annoying. I figured it was a tenant b/c it was a young guy who would park over night and way 2 blocks away. I guess his landlords neighbors were annoyed at his parking too!!

Re: WWYD? Another parking related post

Why don't you just ask the room tenant if he could park his car elsewhere ?
No reason to get the landlord involved, he has no say over where his tenant parks.
