WWYD: Car Question
We put a downpayment on a new Yaris abotu 3 weeks ago and it was supposed to be in about a week and a half ago. Never got a call but were waiting it out. In the meanwhile a relative decided to sell their used 2006 civic (16k miles) for a similar price to what we would be paying for the yaris. DH and I decided we liked the yaris more for a number of reasons and said No to the civic.
Last night DH got a call that it would be here today to pick up so we got insurance and made some calls about our cars. We get a call today that the car is not what we had requested (hi 1984 roll up windows) and that it could be upwards of 10 weeks to get the car we requested.
Issue: Our main car has no brakes, like maybe another 50 miles on them. The other beater car has been in storage and needs insurance transfered over from OH to NY.
Question: Do you just take the Civic even though you don't love it and suck it up or do you do a bunch of crazy stuff to wait for the new car?

Re: WWYD: Car Question
Is the Yaris the only car you like?
can you call around to other dealers to find the car? Don't assume that your dealer is doing this. It cost them money to get the car for you.

Re: WWYD: Car Question
Yaris is the one car out that that fits a lot of our requirements and budget. The other cars we liked (used mostly) aren't anywhere to be found because I guess other people dig them too?
The power windows is a new/random feature on the car so there is 1 in pennsylvania and thats it within the new england area. The dude said he would call a few places to see if maybe they had one on the lot but weren't showing it on their inventory system.
If we could find a toyota that we could get in less than a billion years, okay fine 3 months, that was comparable in price and amenties (not like theres a lot) then we'd do that to.

Re: WWYD: Car Question
DH has a Yaris. When he finally decided that was the car he wanted, he also decided it had to be blue with certain other features. We got exactly what he wanted at Smithtown Toyota. It took a week for them to get it from a dealer in Conneticut.
IMHO, the Yaris is worth the wait, but I also think you should try another dealer to get what you want when you want it.
ETA: the power windows are NOT some new random feature, they are part of the power package. We bought the Yaris in November of 2006.

Re: WWYD: Car Question
Thank you SO much for the info - does DH have the hatchback? Because when we asked around everyone said that the hatchback didnt have power windows until 1 place said that it was new. Maybe the regular sedan it was standard on?
I think before we go to get our money back I'll call a few random places to see if they have any in stock. After about 13 phonecalls today I know am an expert in the stocking/inventory procedures of Toyota Hopefully this works out and I dont have to pay for a car i dont want, albeit a good car....

Re: WWYD: Car Question
hi, i posted to you when you were considering the Yarius that my MIL and FIL just got one.
I have to say theres took FOREVER!!!! it came in right but he bought the car 2 weeks before christmas and it was supposed to be in 1st week Jan, and it came in in March. So I think they have trouble getting them, they even kept showing up at the dealership tellign them they were going to take back their money.
Needless to say my MIl and my uncle who just got one LOVE LOVE LOVE the car. I think its worth the wait. I wouldn't take a used car over a new one. Besides you would be taking for just a short time.
If your brakes are that bad and you need a car ASAP I would look into a long term rental car. It might be a few $$ but IMO worth it in the end instead of buying something for the moment. GL

Re: WWYD: Car Question
the rental car might work out - I'll add it to our list of options... Everything is just turning out to be a paperwork nightmare since we have out of state plates and nary a fully functioning car between the two of us (brakes but no ac and slipping transmission or no brakes with ac and the windshield wipers turning on whenever you make a turn)
I'm feeling like we should stick out the wait, but not sure if its possible

I would you have probally waited most of it out. I would call around to oterh dealerships yourself and see if you can locate one, or check toyotas website for locations, I know with Honda you could see the actual stock at each location. Sorry you have to go through this.
