WWYD-Gift related...

If you were going to an engagement party w/o your DH/DW/SO bc they had another function to attend would you give a monetary gift from both of you or from one of you?

(EX: As a couple you would give say$100 but since only one is attending you give $50)

If we were both invited, I'd give the same that I would give if both of us were in attendance.

if its someone who has given the couples gift to me then i would be more inclined to match even if solo....

but if we havent exchanged gifts before- then i would reduce it. they are only paying for 1 plate instead of two. times are tight.

Ditto.

Wait, actually when I went to a wedding for a work colleague, I did give less b/c DH didn't go, but it wasn't someone we were close to, and he didn't go for that reason, not b/c of other obligations.

So, I guess in my case, it depends on who it is.

I give half as long as we were able to RSVP as one. If we RSVP'd as two and DH got sick and couldn't make it, I would give the normal amount I would give for a couple.

Re: WWYD-Gift related...

The gifts I give have nothing to do with whether DH attends or not, how much someone is spending on their party, etc. It's based on our relationship with the couple getting married and what we can afford to give at that time.

DH going or not going wouldn't affect the gift we give.

Same here. It would depend on my relationship with the couple.

And if I am not really that close to you, I might not go at all or give a gift. Flame away. Chat Icon

Re: WWYD-Gift related...

Thanks for your input.

My friend has past issues with this person.

I will just say this person is not "generous" and said friend is...so she feels she SHOULD just give the gift from her (she RSVP'ed just her not DH) but she does not want to look cheap bc she isn't cheap...

I wanted to get an idea (regardless of pas tissues with said person) of what others would do if they were going w/o SO Chat Icon

Re: WWYD-Gift related...

If she doesn't want to give a generous gift, then she doesn't have to give a generous gift. I just don't see what her DH going/not going has anything to do with it.

Her thinking was two people=double the gift bc two plates to pay for.

I am certain she is going to give what she would give with DH and was just thinking a loud.
