WWYD- going away to Florida/flying

nice 2 hr 1/2 tops flight.

G is 2 yrs old.

Will be 3 a month from the vacation.

Purchase a seat for $350 or
let her sit on my lap and most likely she will be asleep since its nice and early flight.

Think I can get away with it?

Last yr, didnt even ask me for a birth cert though I was told to bring one.

Re: WWYD- going away to Florida/flying

Sometimes I've been asked for DS's BC, other times I haven't. To be honest, we started getting him a seat once he turned 2 so I have no idea if you could "get away" with it.

I think they will likely ask this year because she will look like a 2 year old and they would want to verify that she is under two.

Re: WWYD- going away to Florida/flying

If the seat cost $350 - heck no I wouldn't buy her a seat....we have bought DD a seat not at that price though...I think it is easier, cause we bring her car seat, she likes her car seat, doesn't mind being in it and can sit in it for hours...I know I am not helping....

As for the BC, I don't think I was ever asked for DD's

I would think that if she's almost 3, they would probably question her age, since you are "supposed" to buy a seat for any child over 2.

I'm a nervous nelly and I would buy the seat for a few reasons but the main one being what if they DO ask and you either can't fly because there are no seats left OR you have to purchase a seat then and there.

It isn't worth the risk IMOChat Icon

But I do know what you mean, I had to buy one for DS in July and it pizzed me off to no end, and they even told me he didn't need a BC until he was 18, but still, I didn't want to chance it.

I think once they turn 2 you have to buy a flight. I have been to Florida 3 times with them and always get asked to see their birth certificate on the flight coming home.

I wouldn't risk it because you're going to have 2 kids with you.

Having that second one is going to make anyone figure that G is 2 years old just by virtue of the fact that she's walking and talking, kwim?

I wouldnt risk it because if they do ask, you will either have to buy a seat on the spot, which could be very expensive, or they could be sold out, and then none of you could probably go. When I was at the airport last, that happened to a woman. They didn't ask me (DD was only 9mths, so clearly not close to 2), but the woman in front had a child who was probably around 2. She hadn't bought him a ticket, they were sold out, and there was nothing that could be done.

Nope only one with me, 2nd wont be here yet Chat Icon

Plus, she can be a really really smart under 2 yr old. LOL

After discussion, we most likely are buying the seat.

Not worth the risk.

I would buy a seat. Andrew was 2 when we flew to Florida and he would have never lasted on my lap. Not to mention I was 6 months PG at the time.

I would prob get her a seat, we went to the bahamas this past summer and got DS a seat and it was greatChat Icon He played, ate, watched TV (gotta love jet blue LOL). Much easier...their is no way he would have stayed on my lap, plus i was 3 month pregnant and sick so it worked out better to get him his own seat

I can't read. I thought you were saying #2 would be 3 months old at the time. Chat Icon

But now that I've turned my brain on, that doesn't make any sense at all to be booking a trip to FL for a year from now. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: WWYD- going away to Florida/flying

I would buy her a seat because you don't want to get all the way to the airport and have them ask for a BC.

I flew with DD when she was 9 months old and clearly under 2, and Jet Blue made me show them a BC.

Re: WWYD- going away to Florida/flying

We've always bought Ale her own seat -- even a $700 trip to Spain at 18 months.

It's safer, and much more comfortable for both of you.

So my advice would be to buy the seat!
