WWYD? Need some guidance.

Just to give you a little bit of my TTC history:

-Started TTC in March 2009.
- Got a BFP in May 2009.
- 1st m/c beginning of June 2009.
- Started TTC again @ end of August 2009.
- Met my gyno at the end of April '09, and she prescribes internal sono, blood work & HSG for me, and SA for DH.
- We go away and I miss the timing for my tests, aside from the internal, which was fine. DH has SA, and it's within normal limits.
- Next cycle....BFP (6/19/10)! Keep in mind that this was only my 7th cycle since starting to try again, since my cycles are long and irregular.
- Quickly found out my #s weren't doubling, and a month later, am currently at the tail end of my #s dropping (Beta was 8 as of Friday). Seems to have been a chemical PG.

When I went to the office for my beta on Friday, I ran into my dr. in the hallway. She basically said to pick up where we left off - I go for my bloodwork and HSG, and then she'll decide if I need to go to the "fertility guys," or if she can treat me with meds herself.

After this 2nd unsuccessful pregnancy, and such a long time TTC in between the two BFPS, my immediate inclination was to go right to a RE. Would you go for the tests first and see what your gyno says, or after 16 months of trying (with a 2 month gap and long cycles), would you just go past her advice and straight to a RE?

I think I know what I want to do, but I really want to hear the advice of those who have been though this. Thanks so much!

ETA: I'm 31 years old, if that affects your decision.

Re: WWYD? Need some guidance.

After TTC'ing for a year, I went to my regular OB and he sent me for an HSG. He found that my tubes werr partially blocked, but wanted to treat me with Clomid before sending me to an RE.
It was unmonitored and a huge waste of time...and dangerous, really. He also gave me some information that turned out not to be true....not because he was trying to, but because he wasn't as well trained in IF as an RE.

So, I tell everyone to get to an RE as soon as you feel like something is wrong. You could probably just go for the HSG, but I wouldn't let your OB treat you with meds.
Honestly, after two m/c, I would just get to an RE.

Good luck and I hope you make the right decision for you and DH Chat Icon

Re: WWYD? Need some guidance.

I wasted time with my OB/Gyn so I will tell you that if I were in your shoes and could do it again, I'd go right to the RE. I'd actually call and get the appointment and do the tests in the meantime. Then just bring the results with you to the RE. Good luck!

Re: WWYD? Need some guidance.

My ob told me not to even waste time and go to the a RE. They really know how to get you pg, and they monitor you much more than an ob. It doesn't hurt to go for a consult at an RE.

Re: WWYD? Need some guidance.

You know in your heart what to do.

Take care of what you have to do. It's your body. Good luck and I'm sorry about your miscarriages.

There is more to it than just luck. There could be some other things cooking.
