WWYD- Old Oil Boiler that keeps breaking down
Our boiler is the original boiler that came with the house (60 + years old) EVERY year it breaks down and EVERY year they tell us we need a new one (this has been for the past 10 years)
We need this boiler to last us about 6 more weeks until we switch to gas- it broke down a few weeks ago and again over the weekend. The boiler man said we *need* a new boiler, or at least another burner (which costs $800). We have a service contract so when they repair it it doesnt cost us anything (except a tip for the guy)
Should we chance it or just suck it up and repair it?
ETA: I saw the post about the family whose boiler exploded over the weekend just want to add that we always get our boiler serviced.

oof, 6 weeks in the dead of winter is going to be HARD. Have you called the gas co. to see if they can move up the conversion date?

So the boiler is working now? And if it breaks down again it's still under contract and they'll come service it for free? I don't know; I think I'd take the chance for only 6 weeks. I don't have kids yet though, so my DH and I could always suck it up and pile on the layers for a night or two. If I had kids I might think differently.
