WWYD-Opinions needed

DD turned 3weeks on Monday. This Sat. we are invited to a friends house for a BBQ/Grad Party. Would you take your baby at this age? I said I might go as long as the weather is good and nobody asks to hold her, but I am on the fence.....WWYD?Chat Icon

I'm pretty lax and say yes (weather permitting of-course) ....I'd probably just leave her in the carrier and I'd go a step further and say that if its an outdoor party, leave her in the carrier in the stroller with the canopy up Chat Icon

Just be prepared for an answer "if" someone does ask to hold her if she's out ( blame the ped Chat Icon )

leave her in the stroller, and get the insect netting(an easy way to keep people from touching her)

Re: WWYD-Opinions needed

I'm pretty much of the "if the baby is going to get sick (god forbid!), then they will regardless of staying home or not, since someone else cam bring it in" mindset, so I would go...in fact, when dd#2 was first born (she was 10 days old), we brought her to dd#1's 2 yr old room graduation for school. I wanted to get out and neither dh or I wanted to miss the performance they do....it was outside and it worked out great, she slept the WHOLE time and we all had fun, plus dd#1 lived her life like she did before the little sister arrived, and it helped her own transition into a big sister! I say, go, enjoy and don't worry!Chat Icon

Re: WWYD-Opinions needed

DS was a NICU baby and we were told to keep away from crowds for 6 weeks, so no, I wouldn't go (he was also a summer baby).

A fever in a newborn results in a spinal tap - and is significantly different from a sick older baby or toddler.

Having gone through holding down my daughter for a spinal tap & a week stay in the hospital, I'd leave the baby home with a grandparent if I wanted to go.

To me it's not worth it.

Yup I agree.

Or if i did go, it would only be if it is outdoors and I would be looking like an anti-social nut bc I wouldnt be sitting with a group of people, my baby would be in the stroller, covered and I wouldnt let anyone touch her.

But thats ME, to each his own and you do whatever YOU are comfortable with :)

I totally agree that people won't leave her alone...so I think if you are afraid of that I would say no....it iis hard to say no..I think at least.

Re: WWYD-Opinions needed

How big of a party will this be? If it's like 15-20 people I see nothing wrong with it. But if it's more like 50, I prob wouldn't go. Our ped specifically said no crowds until the first round of shots at 8 weeks. When my son was about 2 or 3 weeks old, we took him to a family party with about 12 or 13 people. Other than that, we really did keep him away from crowds. If you're questioning, I would call the ped and ask his/her opinion!
