WWYD- swine flu and open house
So our place is on the market. Our Realtor is targeting the city are-bronx, queens and brooklyn and trying to bring them up to where i live. He advertised for an open house for us this weekend and got 9 responses from queens and 5 from the bronx. So far two of the queens people canceled due to the swine flu outbreak and them having to work this weekend b/c their children schools were closed this week and them taking off. Now my Realtor called me and is a little afraid to be bringing people up from queens when he knows we have a little one in the house. Now with this whole swine flu I agree with being cautious but i also dont want to overreact as you can get anything from anyone, from any area. but i do appreciate his concern for us. We decided to keep the open house on unless more people cancel due to it. i was just wondering if you would have kept it on to or canceled knowing what you do about swine flu. My thing is, if i canceled, then i have to always be concerned b/c you never know who will come up and if its not this weekend, they could come next weekend, etc. and i don't wan to live my life afraid and maybe harm our chances of selling. TIA!

I think you're doing the right thing. People who are concerned will stay away, and those truly interested will come.
If it will put your mind at ease before your child comes back into the house can you clean it? I don't mean a professional cleaning, but vaccum and dust all the major surfaces?

I wouldn't cancel it.
My DH is an EMT for the FDNY, he works in Brooklyn, but gets deployed all over the city, and he can't not go to work, KWIM?
I understand being cautious as well, but I wouldn't cancel something like that at all.

Re: WWYD- swine flu and open house
I wouldn't cancel it, and I'm a total germaphobe. My DH works in the city, rides the LIRR every day. He could easily be exposed to swine flu and bring it into our home, what can I do? My parents live in Queens, where the majority of the outbreaks have been. Again, I'm not gonna ban them from visiting.
I would do some basic cleaning afterward, nothing more than that.

I wouldn't cancel it. Like the OP said - I would just clean your house afterwards.

I wouldn't cancel it and I'm a germaphobe. I would just wipe down EVERYTHING anyone touches with anti-bac wipes after they leave.
It doesn't seem this is going away in the near future and so as much as we all might want to wait it out you can't put life on hold forever
