WWYD? Taking the baby on numerous road trips in the winter
We've got invitations for family events, get-togethers, baptisms, etc. every weekend from Christmas through the first week of February. All of these events are happening out of state, a minimum of 3-hours round-trip for each event (sometimes more). DS will be about 6 months old and I have to bring him to all of them either because kids are expected to come or due to lack of child care on the days we're invited. I am very uneasy about subjecting him to so many long-distance road trips in a row, particularly in the middle of winter.
WWYD? Try to make it to all of the events, or just commit to three or four of them? I am inclined to just commit to a few of the closer ones, but I'm feeling guilty about not going to everything -- like people may be offended if I go to one person's event but not theirs (I should add that these are all family events so they'll know if I skipped their event and went to someone else's). TIA

3 hour drives are no big deal. Just try to drive during nap time. If you sit in the back with him and have a portable DVD player, I think you will be just fine.

Honeslty I dont think all the traveling is going to phase the baby as much as it will phase you. He'll probably nap most of the time. I woudl sit in the back though and have something to keep him busy!

3 hours w/ a 6 month old who is good in the car is nothing - He's comfy in his carseat and will probably nap -
Or, try to make the drive @ or around his nap time -

One of the trips is 3 hours each direction and we can't stay overnight. Also these events are at set times so I can't arrange driving around his naptime unless i want to get there super early and wait around in the car for an hour or so, which I will not do in the middle of winter.

Re: WWYD? Taking the baby on numerous road trips in the winter
My rule of thumb when they were little is that I left early in the morning and either went to my inlaws or my parents since I was the one OOS and would hang out until the event. I have also shown up early to birthday parties at friends houses because I wasn't going to sit in extra traffic to be there on time. None of my friends EVER complain about that. They actually like it since I don't get to seem them often.

We would drive upstate to DH family all the time, even in the dead of winter, its about 5 hours one way. Like the PP said, leave during nap time/bedtime and he will most likely sleep the entire way. Youll be fine for just 3 hours.
