X-Post -- Godparent question...
What are the traditions for godmother and godfather? I know some people have mentioned on here that the godmother is supposed to buy the baby's gown -- but we did that sicne we didn't want my sister to have to. However my BIL is asking if there is something that he is "supposed" to do and we told him just be there but he keeps asking us if there is something traditionally that he should do.
TIA if anyone can help.

My sister offered to buy the cross -- she is the godmother -- and she's already bought it.

Re: X-Post -- Godparent question...
well that is traditionally the Godfathers gift
if the Godmother bought it....well then i really can't think of anything else "traditional" for the BIL to get

Re: X-Post -- Godparent question...
Thanks everyone. I can't say anything to my sister because we appreciate anything that she wants to do -- and she offered to do the cross and so that is okay with us. I just feel bad because now my BIL is asking and wants to do something special and my sister kinda already did what tradition says he should do.
Today when we were picking up her gown though the place had some nice bibs as well as some nice bracelets -- so I will tell my DH to tell him about that -- if he wants to get her a special "keepsake" type of gift. They had little small bracelets where you could engrave a name as well as a bib that said "My godfather loves me."
Thanks for your input everyone!

Maybe he could get her her first bible and rosary beads. Also, in the religious stores they sell crib medals with a blessing on them and they are tied around the crib, I bought one for my friends baby's christening, thought it was really special!

You can ask him to do a toast at the party. I also like the idea of getting the rosary.
If your sister got a cross for the baby to wear, the godfather could get a cross that goes on the wall, or a standing one for a dresser.
