Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks Queens has a walk-in-clinic. They can get immediate assessment and referral for inpatient or outpatient care.

They can take him/her to the nearest emergency room and they will be evaluated to determine what services they need. If they need inpt, the clinician will get them admitted. Most hospitals have inpt psychiatric units but most of the time they are not specific for depression. the pts can have a wide range of disorders. I don't know of any off the top of my head that have a straight depression unit, but I will research it and see. Also, if they would prefer a specific hospital, I would suggest they go to that hospital's ER so that if there is a bed available and the insurance is available, they will get admitted there.

ETA: I know a bunch in WEstchester but nto sure if that is too far.
Columbia Pres in White Plains is good and really nice.
I've also referred a lot of patients to 4 Winds (I am a psychologist).

Thanks you guys, I really appreciate the feedback. He's currently been admitted to a regular hospital, and they're looking for a place that specializes in the kind of care he'll need moving forward. I'll let my friend know about these recommendations today.
