X post from Tavel - need road trip ideas

I got no responses on that thread so I am posting it here...

DH and I will be driving to OH for Christmas and I was wondering if you could share what you bring along in terms of food and activities for long road trips.

Tons of music, before my iPod, we brought along at least 100 CD's.

A blanket (it gets cold being the navigator).

Lunchables (the ham and cheese with crackers are easy to "feed" to the driver on the go)

Red bull

Water, Coca-Cola, Sprite (we buy the small bottles & cans and put them in...)

A mini cooler with ice

Hard candy

Gum

Chips

We always bring: something sweet, something salty, something chocolatey, something sour (candies are best because they keep the driver awake)

If not stopping for food, I make sandwiches and eat those on the go

Have a safe trip!

ETA: On our last 2 trips, we started making a list of "movies to see", so I had a column and DH had a column. That way we go to that list when renting at Blockbuster. It's helped a lot!! Sometimes DH is nice and picks one from my list (they're usually chick flicks an the last 2 have sucked ) and I'll do the same...

Don't forget tons of napkins and a garbage bag for all that food!

We play games that we make up. Like the Newlywed game. We test each other on knowledge we should have about each other.

Then there's the last letter/first letter game. And naming music bands that have colors in their name. Or food in their name.

Lots of music. What about audio books too?

Yup, we play games too. And we talk...a lot. I know way more about DH's past than I care to...

But it's cute to relive our childhoods/stories from that era.

We did run out of things to talk about though...

well you spent 30 hours in the car, round trip we're spending about 1/2 of that - thankfully

I hate road trip with all my heart!!!! but it's a faction of the cost of flying and then we have a car when we get there. it just makes so much more sense

12-13 HRS EACH WAY SUCKS!!

Your trip should be fun!! I wish NY was that close...we may have to do it again next week (as a surprise to DH, I get to drive all the way )

I know!! It's not definite yet, but he's been hinting that he wants to be there for Christmas really bad...and we can't fly (well, he can't).
