x-post from Teachers: College Teaching

Hi,
I am new to this site -- it's a bit addicting!

I have an MBA and I am thinking about becoming a college adjunct professor. Can you offer any advice on schools, application process or any general advice.

TIA

Re: x-post from Teachers: College Teaching

I teach MBA classes, but I only started once I advanced to the candidacy stage of my doctoral program (I taught for grad classes for one semester before completing my doctorate). Where I teach, they generally have enough adjuncts with doctoral degrees that they don't hire many with MBAs. They also request publications from peer-reviewed journals and prior teaching experience (I also first taught at the undergrad level).

Try the local community colleges--I know Suffolk lists their adjunct opportunities on their job listing web site. Applications are usually your CV. I also had to submit published papers.

Suffolk lists their adjunct vacancies on this site, and they are in need of Business adjuncts. I think that would be easier to break into than trying for a 4-year or grad program. Good luck! Ironically, Suffolk pays more than most local 4-year schools.

I agree with the above poster - teach at NCC or SCC first - many of the four year schools are going to want PhD for undergrad and grad.
