Re: X-post Montauk Point State Park
Well I did a bunch more searching online and I found my answer.
Dogs can go!
We had such a nice time taking the doggie for walk down the beach and through a trail in the woods up to the beach again. We kept the dogs really quiet when we got to the seal viewing area and we saw a seal!
Unfort. some people have no respect for rules/signs/nature in general.
It was posted EVERYWHERE that the beach front was closed for the physical and emotional safety of the seals. If you go on the beach, they get scared and go in the water.
Well there were about six couples who just HAD to go that extra 10 feet onto the beach and see the seals up close. One guy even went so far as to climb on the rocks. There were a few more seals on the rocks as we approached but, they got scared away and we only got to see one.
Why do people do this????
But anyway... it is a loooong ride out there.. but, a really nice walk with the doggies if you bundle up!

Re: X-post Montauk Point State Park
I did this yesterday at the Cupsogue location, but unfortunately didn't see any I missed the guided tour, so I may not have been on the correct path. It was cold...but a beautiful day for a nice walk on the beach if you bundled up. X-post to NFR ETS: You may want to try this location next time. It's much closer than Montauk. It's exit 63 off of Sunrise Hwy.
Were you able to take any pictures?

Re: X-post Montauk Point State Park
Glad you had a good time. I've gone out there a few times and taken Misty. Sometimes I've driven on the beach (OK if you have a permit) to the stopping point and others (if there are a lot of people) I've just parked the truck at the first "overlook" and walked from there. I've never had a problem bringing the dog. I agree with you about people scaring the seals, I always end up hanging out there for a long time so we can get a good look.
