x-post: Nikon SLR Camera? D60, D80 or D90

I know this question has been asked and i have done a search and am still so confused.

MY DH and I have the option to purchase one of these cameras and I can't decide which one. I know there are some features of the D60 that are better then the D80 and some that aren't better. I know the D90 has the video option but how good is the video option if you have this. We were going to buy a HD video camera too--will I still need one if I buy the D90 and if so should I buy the HD one or a less expensive one.

I don't want to buy one and then want to upgrade in a few years, but on the other hand I am not a camera person but want to learn and be able to take great pictures of my new baby.

I am just SOOOOOOOOO confused and we have to make a decision by the end of the month.

Please help
TIA

We just got the D60 for Christmas for each other. I didn't want something too crazy so far so good. We really haven't had a ton of time to play around with the settings and stuff but the pictures are amazing so far.

We also got a Sony Handycam HD Camcorder because we wanted the videos to be in HD.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

It really all depends on your budget. The D60 will definitely be more than enough but at the same time, you get video with the D90 although I doubt you would use it as your primary source of recording video. You'd probably still end up with a camcorder in addition to your DSLR.

If you get the D90, you won't need to upgrade for quite some time.

However, I would always advise a less expensive body with a better quality lens than a better body with cheap glass on it. A lens is an investment, a camera body is not so much.

So, with the same money that you buy a D90 w/a kit lens and not much more, you can buy a D60, a nicer lens (or lensES to cover a larger range) and/or a basic speedlight.

The D80, while a solid camera, is older technology and I wouldn't recommend it out of these options.

Thanks so much! That makes alot of sense. My Dh and I found it odd that the d80 came out in '06 where the d60 came out in 08.

I think the camcorder is definitely worth the money. DH & I both love it! We can't wait to use it when the baby arrives. It is so small and portable too!

As for the D60, I got 2 lenses with mine because it was part of the package. I think I got a pretty good deal. I really shopped around.

HTH!
