Re: X-Post: Riu Cancun
Is it the Riu in Riviera Maya or in Cancun??
Ahh you know what it doesn't matter. I was just in Riviera Maya in May.
Things we loved: The powerboat jungle tour. You drive your own powerboat to a fairly shallow reef and snorkle. Lots of fun and beautiful snorkling.
Pirateship Dinner Cruise: We went with another couple which made this a lot of fun. My thought is the more tequila you have, the more fun it is. Two pirate ships go out into the lagoon and have a battle. There is dinner and dancing. It's a little cheesy but we had a good time.
Senor Frogs and Carlos & Charlies is always a good time.
The horse back riding in Riviera Maya is fantastic. You actually gallop on the beach (a lot of horse back riding places don't let you gallop).
X-caret is nice. You can swim with the dolphins and swim in underwater caves.
Cozumel was kind of lame. It's was hit hard by the past two hurricanes and hasn't been rebuilt too much. I guess the governments focus is on Cancun.
HTH & have a GREAT time!! Sooo jealous!

Re: X-Post: Riu Cancun
I was looking at X-Caret, I was thinking about doing the snorkling there, it is 45 minutes from where we are staying. I always wanted to go to Cozumel so that's good to know, thank you!

X-Caret is supposed to be great. We went to Xel Ha and didn't find it to be as wonderful as everyone said. You must take the trek out to Chichen Itz (did I spell it correctly?), it's one of the new seven wonders of the world. If you have never done zip lines, you should give it a try. I also heard Discovery Jungle Park can be fun, if you like to be active.

Re: X-Post: Riu Cancun
Definitely visit Coba. We stayed at the RIU Palace in Riviera Maya for our HM. Coba was one of the day excursions and it was awesome! You visit a real Mexican village and see how the people live. The little kids just break your heart. Before we went on the tour guides gave us a tip to bring little treats for the kids. You never saw anyone go so insane be happy over hotel soaps and plastic grocery store bags.
Its humbling.
Before that they take you on a hike in the Mayan Jungle.
This was the best trip ever!
