XPOST: Did your obgyn do scheduled inductions for convenience?
My last obgyn didn't do this but my new one does and suggested that we schedule a delivery date once the time gets close. It would be convenient for everyone.
Just curious what other obgyn's policy was.
Do you usually induce like at week 39 or once you are dilated?
If I remember correctly, I was 1cm dilated for almost 2 weeks (at around 37 weeks) before I actually went into labor. I delivered at 39 weeks and ultimately needed to get induced because my labor was not progressing fast enough.

Mine does not.
With DS I was induced a week after my due date.
With DD I was scheduled for induction a week after my due date, however, she came on her own 4 days late. So, my body knew what to do the second time around, she just wasn't ready yet.

I don't know if mine does because I went 2 weeks early with DD, but i can tell you DD was born the wednesday before memorial day and the hospital was packed with women getting c-sections. The nurses told me it was all the doctors wanting to get them out of the way before the long weekend!

Re: XPOST: Did your obgyn do scheduled inductions for convenience?
I was induced for scheduling..
at my 40wk visit the day before my due date i was 100% effaced and 3cm dilated. the week before i had nothing. My original dr. left the practice when i was 36 weeks. So i was left with the male head dr. there doing ALL deliveries. This was wed. I was due thursday. He said i could wait out the weekend but did not want me going past monday. He had a wedding that weekend and wasnt on call. Friday he was booked with 3 c-sections.
So thursday morning we scheduled an induction, against my will basically..LOL. But i wound up going into labor on my own 4am the morning of my induction anyway.
My original dr. wanted to talk me into scheduling a c-section b/c they thought DS was on the big side. Do not let them talk you into anything you're not comfortable in doing.

My current OBGYN does and we already spoke about it since all my family is in NY. He said they do some testing and pass and you need to be progressing already before they consider it.

Mine did not HOWEVER if their was a medical reason for the induction then he would.
To better explain...He let you go 7-10 days past due date THEN he would induce you.
To do it before 41 weeks it was for a medical reason.
In my case I had Preeclampsia that came on sudden and was progessing pretty fast and he didnt want me to develop full blown eclampsia so at 37 weeks and a half he induced me HOWEVER he told me I was going to be a tough induction.
I was....wound up with a section after 2 days of labor.
He said next time around....no question for a scheduled section bc the induction was not healthy for ME.
Just curious...FM your dr bc i do know of one particular OB that does scheduled inductions by 39 weeks

Re: XPOST: Did your obgyn do scheduled inductions for convenience?
I wasn't induced, but I had a schedule c-section. And the hospital I delivered at has a policy of no inductions or scheduled sections before 39 weeks. (I'm sure there are circumstances which allow either prior to 39 weeks, but that is standard procedure)

We didn't talk about details about induction. I'm 17 weeks pregnant. We were just talking about her call/delivery schedule and she said she delivered about 40% of her patients and that we could explore induction when we get closer. It was like a 30 second conversation.
She's an adjunct obgyn professor at NY Presbyterian. I don't think she'd do anything to endanger the baby.
I was wondering what the norm was but it looks like most doctors don't do inductions unless you are past 40 weeks or have a medical condition.

Mine doesn't like to do inductions PERIOD. I asked about inducing with Abby before I knew I couldn't deliver vaginally. For him its just not something he likes to do.
