I'm all the way in NJ and haven't taken my kids to the sprayground yet because of this. We do have a pool but it's difficult gong in alone (it's IG) with the two of them.

I grew up going to Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa and loved it.
I took DS to our community pool last week and thought it was clean and well supervised.

Up until about 3 years ago, I was a member at Marjorie Post. Very clean. My kids loved it. They have now outgrown it. My kids never got sick there. We occasionally go to Wantagh

I answered on your other thread. We love it. I'm not an overly paranoid mom, so I go and let my kids have a blast!

We go to ours - it's a great pool and my dd always loves playing with all the other kids. I grew up going to the town pool so I see no reason not to do the same with my kids.

Re: XPost from NFR - Community Pools - Yay or Nay?
It's funny b/c I posted about this a few weeks ago and almost everyone who responded said that they had no concerns with public pools. I was surprised; I had thought that more people would have concerns. I ended up not joining our town pool anyway b/c I had concerns about the bacteria & such.

Re: XPost from NFR - Community Pools - Yay or Nay?
I would say it depends on the area & others that are there. If it looks good, well taken care of, and people are following the rules there, I'd say yay! If it looks sketchy at all, or other people there aren't doing things according to health regulations (swim diapers, etc), I'd say no.
Can you go to check it out first before joining?

Nay, we are still dealing with coxsackie because of public (resort) pools.

Re: XPost from NFR - Community Pools - Yay or Nay?
I grew up with a community pool, we used to love it. I have one near by now (in NJ), but we didn't join this year, DS is only 5 months, so I wasn't sure how much he and I would go. Next year we will join.....DH won't go though, he is anti public pool!

Re: XPost from NFR - Community Pools - Yay or Nay?
I grew up going to a community pool. It was great and they were SO strict (it was annoying but I now realize it was for the good of everyone there!). However, not all public pools are of the same quality, so I say it really depends on the place itself.

Re: XPost from NFR - Community Pools - Yay or Nay?
If it was a choice of Community Pool or No Pool, I would choose community pool. I grew up in community pools also and I rarely got sick...
You could get sick anywhere, in the supermarket you could catch something, on an airplane, in the mall...does that mean you should stay home all the time???

Re: XPost from NFR - Community Pools - Yay or Nay?
I grew up in Garden City and they have a community pool that you must live in GC in order to join/belong. They even have an ordinance that you cannot have a pool in your backyard - so most of the town belongs to the town pool (or to a cabana somewhere). The pools there are gorgeous and in all the years growing up I never got sick once while going there - my parents take us there on weekends and I have no qualms about bringing DD. I think it largely depends on the community pool - some are cleaner and nicer than others so it greatly depends. If you can go check it out I would and see what you think.

ITA. Subsitute Floral Park for Garden City and that was my childhood too!
We have a fantastic town pool and DD is in swimming lessons and loves the water. I never got sick in all my years going to pools.

YAY! I need somewhere to go with DC in the heat. Also you can get sick from anything, anywhere, so I can't live in a bubble.
