"The fact is, DeGeneres and De Rossi did what thousands of adopters do. They wanted a puppy, but realizing the amount of work a puppy takes, they couldn't make that commitment."
I take issue with that statement. why would Ellen break down in tears if she didn't want the puppy?

They gave the puppy away because it had too much energy.

She didn't cry because she wanted the puppy, she was crying because the dog was taken from the children that she gave it to.
She obviously didnt want the puppy...it's all her fault....she could've done more to ensure that she followed all the rules.

I totally disagree with what Ellen did. And I agree, she had no right to use her show as a platform to discuss it. Jeez! I thought someone died, even when she went into the dog story, I thought something happened to the poor dog. Believe me, I love animals but oh brother, with that breakdown on TV Sorry, handle it privately.
ETA: I am a long-term pet owner. I don't get rid of pets bc they don't fit into my life afterall (unless they were dangerous as relates to my kids which is why we haven't gotten a dog yet like we'd like to at some point) My DHs family is a little different and I have more than once had something to say about it. Get a dog trained and you won't have to give it away when it doesn't behave the way you hoped it would. Research a breed before you obtain the animal so you aren't shocked by it's disposition.

They gave the puppy away because it had too much energy. I heard that it wasn't getting along with another pet they already have.

ITA. From the beginning, I think Ellen was wrong to make this private issue a public one, esp since it stems from her breaking the rules. I love Ellen but def think she is very wrong when it comes to this. Her tears were also so selfish. She literally said, "I am crying because I feel responsible." That is because you ARE responsible.

They gave it 2 weeks. And if you read the article, for quite a few days during the 2 weeks, the dog was not even in her home.

But IMO, it was very cruel to take the dog away from the loving family it was given to. why couldn't the agency check them out to make sure they were providing a loving home? that is SO WRONG!! I had a dog taken away from me when I was 8 yrs old and I am still sad about it.

I'm sorry I don't think the agency handled it 100% correctly but I think this was a private issue and Ellen had no right to make it public. She broke the rules and faced the consequences. By making this personal issue so public, an agency that is trying to help animals is now in jeopardy and is receiving hate mail and death threats from the public.
To me, this was the best part of the article and sums up how I feel:
On a personal note: For those who believe I'm holding Ellen to an unfair standard by suggesting she shield her personal issues from her viewers, I'll answer with this. One of the greatest gifts I've been given in my lifetme is the opportunity to teach. Every day I face rooms filled to capacity with adult students who care a great deal about me. I've faced them when I'm happy and I've faced them when I'm sad. I've faced them after losing family members, losing beloved animals, losing relationships, undergoing surgery, and more. But I neither share nor show my burdens. It is not my student's job to bear them. Nor is it Ellen's viewers' job to bear hers. We are simply there to serve.

this should've stayed private. before ellen signed the contract, she should've read it more carefully

"As a result, Mutts & Moms went to the hairdresser's home"
I was wondering how did they go about finding the hairdressers house? I'm sure Ellen didn't give her home address out....

The agency has a rule not to give pets to families with children under 14.

Re: XPost: Great article on how Ellen is hurting rescues (Long but very worth reading)
When my mom went back to work when I was 11, she decided it was not fair to our guinea pig to be left alone for hours alone in the house. She was 3 and used to see my mom in the kitchen all the time. I know it sounds ridiculous for a "guinea pig" but we cared about her. We had her when she was 4 days old.
She found a family with children. The daughter of our drycleaner. They kept her and she lived until she was 5. Yes, we would have been upset if they had given her away after we had given her to them.

I think this is pretty simple, she signed a contract that said if she could not keep the dog, it was to be returned to where she got it from, period. She should have never given the dog to that family

The agency has a rule not to give pets to families with children under 14.
Actually, their rule is not to give small dogs to families with children under 14...the reason behind this is that young children pose a potential threat to a small dog. They can hurt the dog unintentionally. Their rule is in effect for the safety of the dog.

Different situation...you had the guinea pig for THREE years!! She had the dog for 14 days - 5 of which it was in her house, the other nine it was at a trainers house.
