Xpost-Should I see a RE (PCOS-related)
I am contemplating on seeing a RE....Any thoughts would be so helpful at this point. Thank you ladies!
Here is my story
Ok DH and started TTC in Aug. My history I have been on BC since I was 17 b/c I would skip AF for months at a clip. I was never diagnosed with PCOS. The stupid doc just told my parents that BC would correct my problem(I dont go to him anymore he stunk....)
I went to my GYN this past June. I was off BC since Dec prior and I got my AF every other month. I saw her in June just after I had AF. I missed AF in July and Aug. I went back to her in Sept. They ran tests and said everything seems normal..one hormone was a lil high. She prescribed Provera and Clomid. Ok now idiot me took the provera and clomid incorrectly. You take Provera for 5 days then on the 5th day of AF take clomid. Well I took clomid on day 5 of Provera.... So I basically bled out the mature egg.
Ok so I go back...I get a different doc in the practice who said why did she put u on clomid so fast? I told her about the few months of no AF and no O. She mentioned I may have PCOS....I was like whaaaat??? ok whatever....she prescribes me Provera Clomid...I take it right.....I def O...we BD & BD & BD and I get my AF....ok fine.....I call they prescribe me Clomid again.....and here I am in my 2WW I am sched to get AF this tues or wed and i am restraining myself from HPTing.
Here is my question....if this comes out to be a BFN and I get AF or dont get AF should I call a RE it is completely covered by my insurance and I would prob go see Dr. Braverman thru rec from friends we went through IVF.
Can you see a RE if you have PCOS? or can they test you for it?
I have been reading that you can only take clomid 12 times in your lifetime and it can thin your utereus to the point that you cannot carry....I want more than 1 kid and I am on rd 3 of clomid (unless the first F up doesn't work) When do they considered you for IVF? Do you need to have clomid for 12 months then IVF?
I just dont want to waste my time with this GYN. Time is precious!
Please any thoughts would be helpful!

Re: Xpost-Should I see a RE (PCOS-related)
Definately go to an RE !
I have PCOS, wasted 7 months w/ my gyn. who put me on Clomid and timed BD.....
Never gave me any of the preliminary testing , HSG (to check that my tubes were clear) etc....Improperly monitored completely...Also never told me about the 12 cycle max..
I also was not aware that Clomid can dry your CM ( so the swimmers have trouble swimming)...
Finally left and went to an RE who after all the proper testing, did 3 Clomid/IUI cycles ( IUI to bypass the CM issue that Clomid can cause) and now have my 4 year old DS as a result...
Good Luck !!
ETA- My RE will generally do 3-4 cycles of IUI before moving onto IVF...It depends on how aggressive you want to be to a certain degree as well as how aggressive they feel they need to be to achieve a pregnancy...When I was trying for #2, we did 5 IUI's (since we know it had worked in the past), but after they failed we moved onto IVF which is how I got my DD..
Its worth a consult

Re: Xpost-Should I see a RE (PCOS-related)
Best of luck!! . They will have to do a few tests on you to find out whats wrong... it doesnt necessarily mean if you dont get a period or ovulate that you have PCOS... A sono can see if you have any cysts on your ovaries (a classic example of PCOS is having " a string of pearls". Do you have hair on your face? and other areas? Are you chubbier on your tummy area? is your testosterone level on the higher side? These are just a few symptoms and things I heard from having PCOS- of course there are lots more and there are different "levels" of PCOS... I think an RE can see whats going on and hopefully put you on the right track to becoming PG. Remeber everyones protocol is different. I have PCOS (diagnosed with it since I was 13 ) and did 3 months of Clomid and jumped right into IVF- best of luck to you!!!

I would suggest going to an RE before you do any more rounds of Clomid. It is just so much better to have an RE closely monitoring you while you are on it.
Good luck!!!

yes to all of these. I wish my old GYNO diagonosed me when I was younger so I knew what i was in for. All they told my parents was O BC will fix her.
Thanks so much!

UGHHH I know how frustrating it is!!! Im so glad they diagnosed it when they did... not that it made a difference in the IF department but at least I was able to go on the right meds (Metformin) and diet the right way... Good luck to you though!!! An RE will give you the answers you are looking for! Im here if you need to talk!

Re: Xpost-Should I see a RE (PCOS-related)
I have PCOS but had regular periods after coming off of BC. I took Vitex, which is an herbal supplement, and it's supposed to help regulate your cycles. I got my bfp after about a month of taking it. If you do a search for Vitex or chasteberry and PCOS, there are a bunch of success stories from other women with PCOS.

Re: Xpost-Should I see a RE (PCOS-related)
I would definitely see an RE.
I have PCOS and was diagnosed by my gyno. She put me on metformin for 3 months and when that didn't work referred me to the RE. She wouldn't prescribe me clomid because 1) they don't do the necessary monitoring there 2) clomid can dry up your CM, making IUI necessary.
