Funny. Just posted the original (or something similar) on Diet & Fitness.

I get the motivation part but at the same time it's kind of offensive.

I feel like they used that shocking terminology to reel you into reading the whole thing and make a point

I think whoever wrote it could have used another term besides "fatty". I didn't even finish reading it... just skimmed. It totally turned me off.

Re: xpost to diet and fitness - MOTIVATION (NSFW due to curses on image)

aside from you rock and you got this where was the motivation? It was a slew of verbal insults with a couple positive things mixed in. If someone gave me this I would probably be so embarrassed and stop exercising. Those people who are saying its awesome please enlighten me because I don't see what's awesome about it!!!!

I'm not a big girl, but i have let myself go since giving birth. I am so out of shape. If I ran a lap...no...If i so much as go up 2 flights of stairs carrying my baby, I'm huffing and puffing. I think if I ran a mile, I'd feel like I'm dying. I'd be slow, dragging azz, panting and ready to give up. Just feeling like I can't keep up with most might be discouraging enough to quit. I can only imagine how much harder that would be if i weighed more. I thought this was awesome to let people who look at themselves with low self esteem or shame to know that they aren't judged and that their effort and hard work is recognized without judgement.

sorry if this upset you. I honestly thought it was a nice thing.

eta: it's not easy to do things in public (like run) when you know you're on display and it seems like everyone else is thinner, faster, stronger. I thought this sent a message that the runner should be proud.

[Edited to Add]:

I didn't read the whole post above, and thought it was a repeat of this thread! This one has the same sentiment but is much nicer lol

I started as that "fatty" and remember clearly the self-loathing that went along with being obese. I think the majority of people who are that overweight can relate to the insults they heap upon themselves. Before I got serious about losing weight, this might have upset me more but if I had heard this while I was that person huffing and puffing around the track, it definitely would have spurred me on.

Support from my friends and family on my journey was integral to my success. But they love me, they're biased. Words like this from a stranger almost means more, because they don't know me personally and only see my actions.

It really does speak to me because I no longer try to hide or shrink into the background, and I can relate to the strong language, because I'm a strong woman who isn't stopping until I get what I want.

I love this and as a "fatty" I take no offense to this at all. I agree with Greenfreak that hearing something like this from a stranger is more motivation than hearing it from loved ones.

I think this is the message it was trying to give but it could have been said a little bit nicer.

However, as a new runner who is not of a thin build I know how it feels to think people are judging you. So when I do run it is nice when other runners give me a smile and I give one back.

Right! If anything it would make me want to run less thinking that someone is thinking/saying all of this about me.

This one, is much better than the original one! It is amazing the difference in the two messages. The OP was, to me, bordering on verbal abuse. The one posted on Diet and families was motivating and encouraging!

I love this more than I can put into words.

Total fatty talking here and don't think it was offensive or abusive at all. I thought it was super motivational and made me smile.
