I think more than the place (though quality food is key!) is the party itself.
I personally love games--they break up the monotony of the gift opening. And definitely let the guests eat either before or during the gift opening...It stinks to be sitting there starving while watching the gift opening!

Re: xpost where was the best shower you ever attended?
mine at my aunts house it was small and intimate and laid back and just fun! they had it catered with lighter foods- sandwiches, pasta salads, potato salads, etc. they made a video of FI ( now DH) answering questions about me and our relationship... they would play the question then pause it to have me give my answer before they played his answer to see if it was the same.... it was soo cute to see him trying to remember where our first date was and all that lol because there weren't a ton of people there ( maybe 30??) , we also played a great game with "poppers"... my sister got cute quotes and jokes about marriage and love and relationships. she typed them up and put one each in a little box and wrapped them up. she made enough for the number of guests, and each guest got one before i started opening presents. before i opened that guests present, they had to open their popper and read the joke/quote. it was such a GREAT way for them to stay involved while i was opening presents- and the jokes and quotes kept everybody laughing the whole time... instead of just wtching me open presnets and playing "bridal bingo". people are STILL commenting almost 3 years later about what a great, fun, laid back shower it was...

My SIL's was at Thom Thom in Wantagh and it was lots of fun.
My Long Island one was at Veranda II in Massapequa Park and I am pretty sure everyone had a good time.

Re: xpost where was the best shower you ever attended?
I liked the one my colleagues gave me. We were at my Headmaster's house and I had a nice comfy seat by the fire. We just had coffee and a variety of desserts. It was simple but nice and full of love for FI (now DH) and I.

Honestly, the best shower I ever went to was at a friend's house. It was very personal- just a party of a bunch of girls hanging out and chatting.

Ditto! And no time limits so she didn't have to rush through the gifts so we could leave.

Re: xpost where was the best shower you ever attended?
My girlfriend Jamelle's bridal shower. She had it at her SIL's house and it was all home cooked food (mmmmmmm!!) and they played alot of games (which was fun). Near the end of the shower a cop showed up...and well...it was on! I have never seen her Aunt in such a compromising position before
It was informal, close and a blast!

Stacy's house.
Everything was done perfectly from the food to the favors.
But I don't think she's going to let you throw it there if she doesn't know you. Plus she has 4 kids now.

Re: xpost where was the best shower you ever attended?
Mine was my favorite too! We had it at my sisters house and catered by Irish Coffee Pub/Bellport CC(same people)...they kept the bbq going the whole day and we had a bartender and ice cream on brownies for dessert! Oh and I forgot to mention that I am NOT a fan of showers so requested it to be a couples party. I opened gifts for the grandmas and aunts who wanted to watch but most people just mingled! It was so much fun! Not at all traditional but that's what I loved about it. Even the men who were dreading it enjoyed themselves. Good Luck!

Re: xpost where was the best shower you ever attended?
I have to say, all the best showers i"ve ever been at where in people's homes....including my own.
At someone's home, it's just so much more personal. you're not stuck at a table with people you may not know that well... you can move around and mingle. for older folks, they can sit up close and see the gifts being opened.
the best part of my shower was that it lasted ALL day..literally rom 1 in the afternoon til midnight... no one was rushing us out to clean the room or another party was coming in.
