Family member, yes of course.
Friend would depend on if it's a close friend that I obviously know too, then yes I go or if it's someone I never met. (Co-worker that I never met, etc), then he goes alone

I would try to, we usually go to things like that together no matter who it's for.

ETA - I don't go to wakes for co-workers though, that he does alone.

I thought you meant a family member OR a friend.
So this is a family member of his friend from work?
No, I wouldn't go.

Agreed. This I wouldn't go for. THis is something he should discuss with other coworkers in the office and they go together. I have been to wakes of coworkers family members where we all go together from the office.
