Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
I realize now I should have done this! The highchair is so big and bulky and a pain in the a$$ (IMO). I have the booster seat that attaches to the chair and he loves sitting in it. We take it to restaurants and peoples houses when we eat there. I use the highchair at home ONLY b/c I have it.....if I could do it all over again I wouldn't have gotten one, I would have used the booster on a regular chair instead

Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
There are no cons to the high-chair that attaches to the regular chair! I believe they are called booster seats.
We have one by Fisher Price and it is GREAT! I am so glad I asked around before getting getting one of those huge bulky stand alone ones! I didn;t even know there were alternatives till BTDT mommies told me!
You can fold them and take them anywhere, they take no room in you kitchen, you can take it apart in seconds and wash! Love it!
Not to mention, they cost about 4 to 5 times less than a regular high chair!

Another FP Booster Seat lover here. Used it with both kids and had returned the high chair I receieved a long time ago! It's also great for going to restaurants and traveling.

Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
We have high chairs and boosters and I prefer the hignchairs. I hate that the boosters take up a seat, if we have anyone over we would have no seats for the guests if the used the boosters. I took my seats out of my kitchen table and put the highchairs in its place for everyday use, since our highchairs had an adjustable height. But myabe this is more of an issue with twins then with one baby.
We could not have used the boosters when they started cereal, they were too small and we needed a 5 point harness.

I think it also depends on your child's temperment. My daughter would tip a dining room chair with a booster on it. She can't tip the wide base of a high chair.

This is exactly the reason the booster concerns me. She moves around a lot already and she's only 4 months old. Also, I love my high chair because it's on wheels, so I can put her in it and if i'm in the dining room, wheel her there or in the kitchen, wheel her there.

Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
I have both. I love, love my high chair. I am using it now with my second child. My oldest sits in a booster seat attached to the chair. The tray is so small on it He hardly has room to eat.... I guess if he sits up at the table it would be better. But for now, I love having my almost 6 monht old in the high chair. I feel much more comfortable that she is safe in it, strapped in with a 5-point harness and not able to tip over in it.

Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
I registered for the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair (which attaches to the chair) and all of the reviews I read rave about it. I hope it turns out to be as good as other people say.

me too...my son would bang his head against the back of our wrought iron chair because the booster seat did not cover the chair to the top.

Jesse likes the booster chair better, but we have our concerns. He, too, would bang his head on the back of the chair (we have a folded up towel on it now). Also, the tray is very small. He has also learned the idea behind momentum - he rocks back and forth to get the chair to move across our hardwood floor - we have to put the chair on the carpet.

Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
Love our booster seat, it is a princess one and she loves it. We also use it in restaurants and peoples houses. I leave it in the trunk of my car.
We could use it now as our primary high chair, but we started using the real high chair when she was about 5-6 months and there is no way she would have been able to support herself in the booster then.

Re: stand alone high chair vs. one that attaches to chair
i had a peg perego high chair and it got so messy, food gets stuck everywhere-you have to constantly take off the cushion and clean underneath. The booster is the best, i just spray it &wipe off after every feeding.
