Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
At my last appt with my midwife, she said did the internal exam and while everything was normal she said I had a slight yeast infection. She said it wasn't necessary to treat it unless it was burning or itching me. Well, it isn't burning or itching but it has been two weeks and it has forced me to wear pantyliners all the time. I am so annoyed with the discharge.
Anyone know of any remedy or do I need to call the midwife? Thanks!!

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
I had a killer at 14 weeks. They would not give me a thing, and told me it had to run its course. I loaded up on quality yogurt. withing 2 weeks it was gone. sorry
also changed my diet a little. I was eating nothing but fruit and carbs. I added bran and whole wheats.

Thank you!! I am 14 weeks now. I wonder if this is something that is common around this time.
I will try to be patient and maybe eat some yogurt.
I also read about washing the area with baking soda and water
Thanks for making me feel less alone with this annoyance.

I read that you can basically welcome your 2nd trimester with one.

I seem to get one every time we have sex! Nothing seems to prevent it.

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
sometimes I feel like i have a yeast infection- not so much itching internally as externally. I find that certain soaps (w. scent) really egg it on- so I only use unscented now and try not to "apply directly" It comes and goes.... and totally stinks.

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
I only had one once out of all my 3 pregnancies, which I guess is pretty lucky. I hear people who practically go through their entire pregnancy with one on and off. You can use Monistat (check with your OB) but my OB recommended using the 7 day cream vs the 1 or 3 day cream. I also ate lots of yogurt, which helped.

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
Juliet, I had one around that time too with Lauren. you'll be ok. I was given nothing to treat it as well unless it was bad, then she said she would only treat the baby not me

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
I've had 2 of them so far. With both I didn't have any discharge. It just burned and itched. I couldn't take it anymore. I used a prescription that the OB/GYN gave me.
Also, with Caiden I got them too, but no matter if it was on a slight infection or what not they always gave me something to use? They didn't want it getting worse?
I hate that every doctor is different.

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
I just had one and my doctor said to use monistat. I did the one day and within 3 days it was completely gone.
However i am in my third trimester so that is why they might of let me do it.

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
I've been on and off UTI meds so I've had them constantly this pregnancy. My midwife said Monistat was ok to use.

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
I had one towards the end of my first pregnancy, and they told me I could use monistat, but it cant be used early in pregnancy....if its not bothering you, I would eat a lot of yogurt and that should fight it off!

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
Okay, so this is normal. I guess I need to eat some yogurt and cleanse with vinegar. Sounds like a joy.
Thanks for all of the advice and support!!

Re: Yeast Infection during Pregnancy
first off.....cleansing with ANYTHING other than mild soap is a no no. PG or not PG. ETA: a cause of them is a change in your body chemistry. I've heard that too much sugar can bring them on. I *guess* I had one years ago...funny thing was I noticed it was after eating a lot of pretzels....so maybe bread products? who knows.
Eat lots of yogurt...it's good for your digestive system anyway. Can be a treatment or preventative
Ask your dr about acidophilus pills....it's the active cultures in yogurt only in a vitamin.
PG or Not PG: taking antibiotics can bring on a yeat infection....a friend of mine gets one EVERY Time she is on antibiotics. She takes the pills every day.
