yellow in eyes
Hi girls I have been lurking here from before I was pregnant. Wellknow I have a six week old and finally joined.
I had a question. After coming home from the hosp my husband noticed the baby had yellow in his eyes. The doc sent us for a billi test and it was 11, 2 days later it was 8 so he said it was fine. At the last doc visit I mentioned to the doc that his eyes werestill alittle yellow. He said they looked fine. By the way the baby was crying and had his eyes shut! Now almost a month later they still don't look perfectly white yet. Am i paranoid?
TIA

Re: yellow in eyes
Not to scare you but I would see a different Dr or insist that your Dr do liver function testing. Yellow eyes are a sign of a liver that is not functioning properly.

Re: yellow in eyes
my baby was born with "high" bili levels, and they treated her for jaundice with the blue lights. her highest level was 5.7 but they said that is considered high when you areo lny one day old. the lowest level was 4.2 and that's when they dc'd the treatment because she was 3 days old and it wasn't risky.
the levels all depend on how old the baby is. if it's very high and the baby is very young, it's bad but if the baby is a little older they aren't as worried about it. all the things i've read say that usually they don't treat it until the levels get to be somewhere between 15-25.
However, if you are still concerned, definately I'd get a 2nd opinion. Are there more then one doctor in your pediatritian's office? Or can a friend recommend someone they like and use? Maybe you acn find a doc who will even just give you a phone consult.

Re: yellow in eyes
My son was also jaundice after birth and the whites of his eyes were also yellow.
I would also seek a second opinion....

Re: yellow in eyes
Sorry i took so long to respond. He was tested when he was 6 and then 8 days old. They had said that since it went down on its own he didn't need treatment. They are def not as yellow as that first week, but not as white as when he was born. I am looking into changing docs I feel the one I have i just so laid back. thanks for the responses.
