Yellow-stained teeth?

I noticed a few days ago that Sasha's teeth (she only has the two bottom) looked a little yellowish. I thought it was maybe from whateevr she had just eaten and that it would go away on its own. A few days later-- they still look a little stained.

I tried rubbing a wet washcloth over them-- rather unsuccessfully I might add. I asked my Ped at her 9 month when we should start brushing and she said a year-- and dentist at 3 years.

Anyway-- I definitely do not want her to have yellow teeth!!!! What can I do?????

Re: Yellow-stained teeth?

We brush DS's teeth and he still has that occasionally. We are going to start using toothpaste, hopefully that will help!

Re: Yellow-stained teeth?

I put a TINY bit of toothpaste on a washcloth and 'brush' Sean's teeth (well, the 2 teeth he has)

OK-- so it's a little normal. I was worried her teeth were rotting or something!

Is there special baby toothpaste? Or can I just use somehting all natural??

Re: Yellow-stained teeth?

Actually I was told yellow teeth are either hereditary or from meds you took while PG and not to worry because they are not permanent teeth. Ronan has this on top.

crashing, the "staining" can also be from certain anticbiotics and other medications that are commonly prescribed to babies for ear infections. check with your ped! Chat Icon

she just had an ear infection and was on amoxicilian. I swear that medication totally f*cked her up with the poops, the eating and now this-- if that's the cause.

Do you know if that's what it is-- if it goes away? Or if anythign can be done about it?

Re: Yellow-stained teeth?

we brush Liam's teeth once a day (Ped said we should do twice a day but the once a day is a challenge). Liam does have 8 teeth though so maybe thats why.

Since he is now having table food I also brush more to make sure he's got good fresh breath along with clean teeth.

not sure Chat Icon deff put a call into the peds. One of my brothers had constant ear infections as an infant and was always on antibiotics (before tubes) and has staining on his two front teeth. The staining occured before his teeth came in. In his case, there wasnt really anything they could do, the enamal was actually stained (not just a slight yellowing) but it doesnt sound like sasha's case is that bad. Deff call the doc! Chat Icon

Re: Yellow-stained teeth?

Maybe it's the vitamins? Do you drop them into her mouth?

I put them in a bottle with BM and her prune juice-- she wouldn't take them otherwise.

Re: Yellow-stained teeth?

My mother literally cleaned each one of my teeth with a clean white towel every night until I was at least in 1st grade and I had really white teeth.

I say HAD because unfortunately I have ruined all of my mom's hard work in the last couple of years (and especially the last 3 months with a newborn) and now my teeth are looking really yellow.
