Yes I am a not being a teacher today...but I tried to go in! SoutherN State Parking LOT!
I was dreading the snow today. I woke up late and continued to clean off my car. Then after 5 minutes of that,...I "hop" on, ok slither over to the Southern State which was a complete parking lot from 109 to 110. It took me 20 minutes to get that far! It was at that point...I realized my sanity and safety come first. I retreated back to my house. Hey...at least my car is clean!
In case you wondered I work for the lovely NYC BOE!

I'm the same way. I always have guilt- I'm not a teacher though. But in the long run- your safety comes first.

Well, if you're a bad NYC DOE teacher, so am I... I saw my street, watched the news, and decided that using a sick day was was less important than my safety.

I am a bad DOE teacher too, but at least when I lived in Queens I always went in. After my 4 hour trip home last month, I decided that I stay home. I wish the train was a real option.

that stinks! that's the one thing that bothered me about working for the BOE...they don't realize how many teachers they put at risk when they don't have a delayed opening or cancel school. many, many, many DOE teachers live on the Island and Westchester and Jersey. it's not safe.
Luckily, DH takes the train in so when it's bad weather, it's not too bad for him.

I wish the train was an option... but my school is Queens (by JFK airport).
On the flip side, I got to book three different college -prep events for my kids, so I was more productive at home than I would've been at school!!!

I prefer not to use the term "bad teacher" but instead say teacher who values her life.
Almost every district on LI had a delayed opening today. If we had a delayed opening I would have made it, but after driving for ONE HOUR I was still in my town because Sunrise/Montauk Highways were NOT plowed at all that early.

don't feel bad. the schools really should have been closed today. I'm a sub and I got called to work today, because obviously a lot of teachers must not have wanted to drive in the snow. But I declined the work because I didn't think it was worth the risk to drive in this weather. I live too far away and they just don't pay me enough!

I work for the NYC DOE and my commute was pretty decent going to work. Left at 5:50 am and my commute home was FANTASTIC! I got home in 40 minutes
I am glad that I went in today

It took me over 2hours, i was late and didn't care because i left a little earlier. the ssp and belt were terrible. The ride home was great though. I try not to waste days on the city's stupidity. I will go in b/c a lot of kids are not there and it is a joke. I prefer to save my days. KWIM?
