Yesterday was my last day at work and wanna hear what my boss said to me?
So I had been with my company for 6 years. When I gave my notice to the husband and wife team that own the company, they were less than happy, and very unprofessional.
The last two weeks have been uncomfortable, but I suffered through and did the right thing.
Yesterday when I went around the warehouse and said goodbye to everyone, I got emotional because I had worked with these people for 6 years.
So I went into my bosses office where the husband and wife sat and I said goodbye. The husband said "goodbye young lady and good luck". The wife said "here is your last check. We paid you for 4 vacation days but I want you to know you are giving up three weeks. I just want you to know that. And also, just so you know, since you are a salaried employee, you technically were suppose to give us a months notice, so you came out ahead. I hope your new job works out".
First of all, she paid me for 4 vacation days but failed to inclued my sales commission for last month.
Second of all, there is NOTHING in the handbook that states anything about a months notice!
What do you all make of that?!?
I left there and thought to myself - what a f-ing b-tch! I am glad I am out of that insane place.

I'd ask my brother the lawyer to write a letter on his firm's letterhead asking for the sales commission $ I am owed.
These people sound like real winners. Don't use them as references ever, unless you really have to. Did you celebrate with the warehouse guys? 
Not much annoys me more than people who treat you like crap and then try to pretend they are doing you a favor.

Actually a few of the guys took me out to dinner last night!
I would never use them as a reference. They told me when I gave my notice that if anyone ever called for a reference for me that they would say I was a good worker, but that's it . They would never go over and above for me. It's really sad that I just couldn't go and have it be a good thing. They took it personally.
I used to think I had such a great job and worked for a great company. I would never let my worst enemy work there. Just disgusting people.

Un-***** believeable. Those unimaginable ba$tards. Stuff like this piss me off to no end. I hope they haven't seen the end of you. You HAVE to do something to get what you are owed.

Yes, it firmed up in my mind that I made the right decision. I told my husband, I don't care if this new job lasts two minutes, I am soooo glad I am outta my old job!

They sound like they're related to my old boss who told me that 2 weeks notice in writing wasn't proper. Since when?

she totally made that up!  A month? It is COURTESY to even give 2 WEEKS!!

if the commision was earned before you left, you should be paid for it. I don't know what you do, but it sounds a lot like the industry i used to work in...it was not very nice!

Hey Lauren,
You should call the Dept of Labor I believe they have to pay you commission on anything earned up to the date you left.

It sounds like you made the right choice leaving these winners. Unless you are on contract, you are an "at will" employee. Technically, you could have left and given no notice at all (not recommended). I agree with the advice to have an attorney write them a letter requesting the money that is owed to you. You earned that commission and it is part of your salary.
