Yet another Nanny/Babysitter Question
Do you pay them for holidays/vacations (your or theirs)/when baby is sick and you don't need them? Do you pay hourly or daily/weekly rate?
We pay weekly (set price and we can drop off anytime after 7:30 am and pick up any time before 7:30 pm) We usually drop off 7:45-8am and pick up by 6-6:30. We do pay her for any days that we don't drop DD off. I asked her about us taking a vacay for a week and she said 1/2 pay is fine. I am okay with this..I mean it's her job and she's entitled to her weekly pay we agreed on. She didn't have to take us as "clients", and did so partially because of the guaranteed salary. DH and my mom keep telling me we are getting ripped off. I disagree..would like to know your opinions.
TIA!

Re: Yet another Nanny/Babysitter Question
I think that most FT nannies get paid days off, etc. as if it was a regular full-time job. I think it varies when they are PT.
Our nanny is going to be PT but we will be paying her for holidays, vacation, etc. We are going to pay her a hourly rate but are hoping to have pretty set hours. If she stays longer, we will pay her for the longer time.
We really liked the nanny we are hiring and are very comfortable with her which is why we are willing to pay her for these things.

Re: Yet another Nanny/Babysitter Question
I pay her weekly...
she takes 2 weeks unpaid every year (I bring my kids to backup on those weeks)
I get 15 days a year per child where I can keep them out of her care and not pay
She gets paid for 4th of July, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Labor Day and Memorial Day even though the kids are not there

Hmmm, I will have to bring this up to her and see if she'd be willing to work out something similar to this.
Since you pay weekly, how do you figure how much to pay for a week you don't use her...weekly pay divided by 5 and subtract that amount?

Re: Yet another Nanny/Babysitter Question
Our Nanny comes to the house so I'm not sure its the same. Originally I paid her per day 3.5 days per week but then between vacations, holidays, etc. it got to be too confusing for everyone. We then offered her a set weekly pay but it means she has to take vacation time when we do (occasionally there have been exceptions) and she now will watch my daughter one night per month so hubby and I can go out on a Friday or Saturday night. It's worked out all around for us, but everybody is different.
