Yet another question for BF'ing moms

K.... so one of my friends told me that she was told by her doc that after her child's birth that she shouldn't wash her nips with soap. That she should just rinse - so as not to leave a residue of soap that the baby could possibly ingest while feeding.

Has anyone else been told this little bit of info?

I've never heard that. I thought you weren't supposed to wash with soap because it can further irritate the skin.

I never heard that reason but I was told to avoid soap because it's drying and will wash away the natural oils and lead to/aggravate cracking.

same here. soap gets rinsed off over them, but not applied directly to that area (does that make sense Chat Icon )

I did read that in some of the paperwork I got from the hospital, but I didn't see the reasoning behind it. I didn't question it because I heard it before.

Never heard of it. Oops!! I wash with soap. Guess he could be ingesting it and I could be drying out my skin.

Re: Yet another question for BF'ing moms

Thank you ladies...

I currently use one of the Oil of Olay body washes b/c the air is so drying out here....

I guess I'm safe to wash them then!
