Yoga. .
so I bought a punch card for Body & Soul in Huntington. . . . . .a month ago. I've been to scared to go, how lame am I? I feel like even in Yoga I, I'm going to look like a moron haha (or even hurt myself!).
Anyone take classes there? &
Yoga I (in general). . .is it REALLY Yoga I or will everyone around me know what they're doing! Should I read up on poses before I go? I need some courage. I did/do Zumba with no worries but for some reason I keep coming up with excuses why I can't go. (like I need a pedicure since we'll be barefoot!!)

Re: Yoga. .
I just started my journey into yoga as well. I'm not in LI so I don't know the studio you are referring to - but I have noticed most of the Yoga studios by me are offering an intro to Yoga session for absolute beginners. I went to the first class of a 4 part series yesterday an it was extremely helpful. Most of the class was talking about yoga and learning the very basic techniques. Next week they will start teaching the poses, by the 4th class we should all feel comfortable going into a regular basic class.
If your studio doesn't offer that, most offer a gentle or basic level class. Start with that and tell the instructor you are a beginner. I've noticed the classes are very mixed in skill, but most people only worry about themselves and not what other people are doing - so you shouldn't be self conscious.
Go for it - I really enjoyed and I'm looking forward to going back!!!

Re: Yoga. .
I go to a hot yoga studio and it absolutely can be scary in the beginning. One of the first things you learn is to just get over the intimadation, to learn that no one is really looking at you or cares.
It does take a little bit of time though, I think.
The best thing to do for your first few classes though is to sit in the back and watch people in the front till you start to learn the poses.
Reading about them or watching a You Tube video can be helpful, but I think you really learn by doing. If luck has it, you will have good teachers that will offer you that "ah hah" moment when it comes to doing the poses correctly.
Good luck.......half the battle is really just getting yourself to the studio to your first few classes.
