It's the terrier! From my experience, any breed with the name terrier is going to be high energy and harder to house break.

Re: Yorkshire Terrier Tempermant? Kids?
I have a Yorkie (a 20lb yorkie ) and he was extremely easy to house train. Picked up it very quickly but then again hes not your normal teacup sized yorkie. They can def. be yappy dogs though. My yorkie is pretty good until he hears someone outside then he goes nuts. He is also very good with children.

Re: Yorkshire Terrier Tempermant? Kids?
I have a 4 lb 7 year old Yorkie and I love him to death but he does have a strange personality. He wants to mark everything, isnt much of a yapper and isnt very hyper which is good. There is definitely tension between him and DH, DH just has to look at him wrong and he growls.. has even chased DH on top of our kitchen island once He does not do well with little children but is fine with everyone else. I am pregnant right now and am very worried how he is going to be once the baby is here. I am hoping he senses the baby right now in my stomach and will be protective over it like he is with me. If he is ever nasty with the baby I will have to send him to live with my dad which will be devastating

My Nana has owned 3 yorkies. Every single one has been terrible with children. I think they developed small dog syndrome though because she treated them like her babies instead of like dogs.

Re: Yorkshire Terrier Tempermant? Kids?
What about a miniature schnauzer? I've been doing a lot of research on dogs and they seem to be GREAT all around, but especially with kids!!! I have a post on here from a few weeks ago about them. I got a lot of great feedback about the breed. Good luck!
