...and just wonder WTH is wrong with people??? I seriously can't even deal sometimes. In the last few days I've read about this horrible pharmacy shooting, a child beaten to death by her mother's boyfriend, a mother who microwaved her newborn and I just saw something about a teenager who gave birth and killed the baby immediately after.

I don't care if you're for the death penalty or not. It seems like whatever it is we're doing, it's not working.

I know we know live in a world where we get (and expect) the news 24/7 now and maybe that's why it seems so overwhelming. But I seriously cannot believe some of the stuff I'm seeing Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: You ever read/watch the news...

Honestly, I try to avoid the news now. I get most of my "news" from reading LIF and Facebook. For me, especially since having kids, it's a lot to handle mentally knowing that these kinds of people exist and a lot of the time... I'd just rather stick my head in the sand. Chat Icon

Re: You ever read/watch the news...

I don't even have to watch the news to think "what the hell is wrong with people!?" -- I just have to ask my DH about his day. It really is amazing some of the things he'll tell me about his experiences at work as a cop.

Sometimes it's hard not to think that society is going to hell in a handbasket.

I will never understand how people can hurt babies. never. I think some states have safe haven places where people can bring children they don't want without going to jail instead of abandoning them or worse. Chat Icon

Yup, same here.

I'm way too affected by these horrible stories. Even just the headlines make me upset.

I agree. If I paid too much attention to the news I would honestly be afraid to leave my house. Especially with this pharmacy shooting. If I really think about it I realize that at any moment my life or the life of anyone I truly love could be over for no reason at all. It's just too much to really think about.

I know. It's disgusting. And the worst part is that they had to reference some previous cases to compare and confirm the cause of death. Previous cases??!!? Chat Icon Chat Icon

And to be honest, I don't follow the news 24/7. I try to wacth the 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock news before I go to bed (usually for the weather but sometimes it's hard to avoid the other stuff).

Re: You ever read/watch the news...

I agree its depressing but sometimes you wonder why the media focuses on reporting stories that are heinous crimes or downright atrocious while pushing positive news stories toward the end of a news show..

I guess its the same attitude people take when they create bottleneck traffic and slow down just to see if there are any blood/guts/bodies on the road from an auto accident. Why else would Hollywood spend so much time making horrror movies like "Saw"? Who in their right mind could stomach seeing such violence on TV? much less re-create it in real life????? News media outlets are just as ratings w*hores as Hollywood, and the sicker the story - the more they will push it up to headlines news.Chat Icon

Re: You ever read/watch the news...

I can watch CNN or MSNBC or any of the cable channels for world news and politics but I absolutely cant handle the local news with all the horrible things that are reported about children. I always cry when something is reported like that and I always say to DH, I wish I could take these children instead of having these things happen to them!

Re: You ever read/watch the news...

It's really scary to think that we are never completely safe. There can be a nutcase standing behind us on line at Stop and Shop. People out there are nuts, and I am so paranoid because of it. It's a scary scary world that we live in and I hope I can do my best to protect my children at all times. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

2 years ago a guy in Philadelphia opened fire on a class of women taking a Zumba class. When you can't work out without worrying about being shot, the world has hit a new low.

I acutally think there is a lot of good out there, but the news isn't really news - is sensational drama. Weiner's weiner isn't news.

I don't watch the regular news that much, but I love sunday morning. That show really highlights the good and talented people in this world.
