You gotta hear this crazy story DH told me about one of his students...

DH is a high school english teacher and this week is parent teacher week. So last night DH comes home and was telling me about this student of his that had told him that her mom passed away. Naturally DH felt bad for this girl and offered to help her out if she needed anything. He got her to go to a guidance counselor to help her deal with her loss.

Last night at parent teacher night this student shows up with her sister, aunt, and her supposedely DEAD MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!! DH was stunned!!! He was so shocked and speechless that he couldn't even find words to come out of his mouth. The mother was an older and frail looking woman. She was actually sitting down on the other side of the room. The sister and the aunt did all the talking. Before DH said anything he went over to the woman and hugged her and said "thank god you are alive". The sister and the aunt let the girl have it for lying but we still don't know what the hell possessed her to tell such a lie! OMG!!! that's terrible! How do you make up a lie like that?

I was like "why tell a lie like that to your teacher and then show up with your mother at parent teacher conference night". But I guess her big lie came out and her family made her come clean.

But can you imagine???

eta...I don't think the mother knows much english so that's why the sister and the aunt were there to do all the talking...

was "the dog ate my homework" excuse too played out for her. What would possess her to tell such a horrible lie like that?

Horrible way to get it. I'm glad they let her have it. She deserves it. Is she could only see the glimpse of someone's life who did lose their mother, she'd certainly think twice.

High school teacher here and not a parent.
Oh, and I did lose my mom at the age of eight.

My take on this is that this girl has other serious issues that are not being addressed. That is truly a sick, sick thing to lie about and she is old enough to know better.

If I was your DH I would have a meeting with the school psychologist asap to discuss the situation.

If it was just a cry for attention, it's sick and I am sorry but she should be made to feel very bad and apologize to those she lied to.

If not, like I said, she has some serious other issues that need to be addressed.

I think if the school does absolutely nothing then in many ways they would be condoning her actions.

Exactly...

DH said that she was complaining to him last night because of his claims that she cut his classes. She said that she only cut one or two. Meanwhile it's way more than that and DH has it all marked down on his attendance chart.

so she lied about her not cuttng as well.

Ooooooooh, bring her to me. I'll straighten her out. She'll wish she never opened her mouth. I'll show her my wedding album w/o any mother daughter pics... it seems like a glaring admission to me.

I can tell her how my father had to take me prom dress shopping. And now how my brother and I have to care for him largely by ourselves after his stroke.

How my mom was not there for any of my graduations, to meet any of my boyfriends, to teach me how to cook, etc., etc.

Oh, and how my own mom will not physically be there to see the birth of my children in a few days.
I'm already experiencing the wave of emotion in anticpation of that event.

She needs to spend 24 hours with me... I'll give her my own version of that show "Scared Straight". She might not make a peep about anything for a very long time
