You know what I hate?
When an investigator I work with NEVER follows up on the legal issues when I ask him to.
And when I remind him of these legal issues that still need to be investigated, he always replies, CCing my team leader, that I'm either "legally misinformed" or advises me on what the "correct" application of the law is.
Thanks buddy, but even though you've worked here longer than me, until you put yourself through 4 gruesome years of law school, and through the excrutiating experience of the bar exam, don't tell me what YOU THINK the law is

I should add.
This is the guy who always clips his nails at his desk, curses repeatedly, punches his computer, and the same person who I believe is stealing my food in the refrigerator

Re: You know what I hate?
Ugh!!! I used to work with someone similar and when they asked me at my exit interview about the people I worked with I really let loose and told ALL. (I did hesitate because I felt bad, but they already had in idea wbout how bad he was - he was already sent to sensitivity training.) He wasn't working there anymore within 6 months.

Re: You know what I hate?
OMG, how annoying and rude.
I fight fire with fire in the situation. I write back, CCing the supervisor something along the lines of:
Actually, you are the one who is misinformed about the law in this situation. Then I'd explain why. Then I'd end with - Please follow up on these issues by [date] and provide me with the results of your investigation. This is extremely important, and I thank you in advance for your timely and thorough attention to this matter.
Do this enough times and he may give up. If he doesn't, he'll continue to look like an azz in front of whoever he happens to CC. If that doesn't work, then it's time for a sit down with him.
People can be so inappropriate. I actually have an obnoxious young attorney working for me now who just doesn't get it. He was supposed to sit in on a client call to TAKE NOTES. (The kid's been an attorney for like 5 minutes.) He interrupted my conversation with the client. The client was like "Who the hell was that?!" PS - he thought he was correcting me, but he was wrong. We had to have a lengthy discussion about the fact that he, as a junior associate, does NOT know everything going on in the case and that it would be worthwhile for him to listen and observe more than interrupt. He interrupted me about 100 times during that conversation. He makes me want to SCREAM.
He also has not figured out how to maneuver in the hirearchy of a big firm yet either. Always follow the rule - whoever is senior to you is a supervisor of yours. This means, ASK if we can schedule time to talk, don't email me and say "Let's talk tomorrow at 10am." Email me and say "I have a few questions about x, y, and z. Do you have any time tomorrow or this week to speak with me? Here is when I am available." (Sorry to hijack with my own vent. I really do feel your pain, though. Once he contacted the client without my knowledge and advised them on something he knew nothing about - totally undermining my authority! )

That's a great idea!!
Its tough being a young, female lawyer. Just keep being the professional you are. We are making the road easier for our daughters.
