I Just wanted to say "put an ad up in supermarkets (with a picture). I know people who had luck that way. Good luck to your friend.

I agree. I'd live on the streets with my cats before I'd just get rid of them...

ITA. I don't think I would move if that were the case. I'm planning to move overseas soon (if DH gets this job) and we are bringing our cats. I can't fathom not bringing them.

I agree. When I adopt an animal I am responsible for them for life. I could never leave them behind.

Me too. That was the main reason I stayed in old apartment complex that became a little hard to afford it, but I couldn't find anything else that was cheaper and pet friendly.
I do feel bad for the OP's friend. I hope it works out.

what does that mean?
one you adopt a pet you are taking on a responsiblity to take care of them
how awful that b/c of a new apartment this pet's future is in limbo
I take the committed I made to my 2 adopted fur babies very seriously- an apartment is not a reason to give them up
I wouldn't rent an apartment that wouldn't allow them- or I would sneak them in- they are cats- they don't need to be walked-

Re: Young cat- up for adoption- needs good home
i know, i cant believe she's giving him up. She didn't have to move- no one was forcing her to. If i didnt have a newborn to take care of I would have considered him myself since he's so affectionate.
The cat will have no place to live as of August 1... so either, he needs someone willing to take him or the no kill shelter needs to open up room....she said northshore was full as of a couple weeks ago when she left to visit family out of state, and now is telling us northshore also only allows the adopter to bring the pet back- which is only the last two weeks of july... so i hope that they have room then if no one is willing to adopt him from here before then...

Re: Young cat- up for adoption- needs good home
There are a lot of people on this board who know of good shelters. Maybe start a new thread for that info, in case it comes to that?

Not directed towards you but what kind of heartless person is this? That is just terrible. So she either will do what with him, kick him on the streets or have him possibly put to death?
Just sickening. You are a good friend to be helping out.

So true. ITA
People just are heartless and cruel. Why did she adopt the poor cat in the first place?

Have you had a cat before? They are extremely easy to take care of. I've been taking care of 4 cats and a newborn/infant since DD was born.
4 cats is WAY more than any sane person should have but if you are worried that you wouldn't be able to give the cat a good home because you have a baby, don't worry about that. They are almost self-sufficient, will let you know when they want your affection, and the only part of owning a cat that can get a little time consuming is cleaning the litterbox. But even that is a quick job, just a little gross...
Are you sure you can't take him? You already know him, he already knows him, you already know that his disposition is great. It sounds like a win-win to me!

Re: Young cat- up for adoption- needs good home
i know I TOTALLY agree with you posters. she shouldnt have adopted the cat 4 months ago.. but its just typical behavior we're now seeing. I cant control another persons decisions. She already did it.
I dont have a picture of him... He's a gray tabby, I believe with a little bit of darker stripes. I just figured there is a possibility of some loving couple or family on here willing to take him, rather than him waiting to see about a possible shelter.
we cant take him... we both work full time and need to dedicate our home time to the baby. This cat definately needs more attention then we can offer, and while the cat would be good with kids, our baby is small, cant talk, stationary and id worry about him nipping him when we go into the kitchen and make a bottle. Plus, we cant take on the extra expense of food, litter, possibility of vet bills. We are strapped as it is with the mortgage and daycare.
