Your dog and storms

Ebony had me up all night due to the lightning and rain and thunder. I finally gave him a PetCalm but I hate to give him that stuff.

Does your dog suffer from storms? What do youdo? Any suggestions? Thanks...

Re: Your dog and storms

My little girl cries even before we hear the thunder, I guess she knows it is coming. Once it starts thundering and lightening, she just hides under the bed or couch. Sometimes we will leave her there, sometimes we will take her and keep her close to us on the couch. Her whole body shakes, I feel so bad, but there is nothing we can do aside from try to soothe her.

Brodie doesn't like them either, but mostly he just quivers and shakes and snuggles as close as he can to us.

I haven't had to medicate him yet. Chat Icon

Re: Your dog and storms

Oh Ebony whines all night long. I think I got 2 hours sleep tops. He hops into and out of bed, next to the bed, runs up and down the stairs, panting and whining. There is no sleeping through it, and since DH gets up at 6am, I got up and went downstairs with Ebony. He hid under my desk for 2 hours. Every time I tried to get him to come to bed, it would start all over.

Just don't know what to do...!

Both my dogs don't like storms. One whines the other shakes and they both just try to hide from it...

Re: Your dog and storms

PetCalm is really just camomille so it's a harmless herb. But Ebs is 11 now and showing his age. I don't like to give him anything that may alter his state. But he gets sooo psycho I think perhaps it is best to give him something to calm him down.

We've already decided we cannpt put him through another LI 4th of July and will be taking him to my sister's in Vermont.

Ug but now we have to get through all the spring and summer storms....

Re: Your dog and storms

Simba doesnt even notice.

He gets more upset if we're both in bed sleeping and their is no room for him. He'll jump on the bed and sit on my DH's chest and breath in his face until DH wakes up and moves over. Then he's fine Chat Icon
