Your favortie zoo with a 1 year old?
Is the food in the park decent? What if it rains, places to hide indoors? Looking for something within 1 hour of the city. Thanks!

Queens zoo is nice because it is small, and they have a good size petting zoo. The parking there sux though and there is no food there. You can have a picnic in corona park though.
I like the Bronx zoo better because you can make a day of it. We went there a few times last year when DD and DS were 1 and they enjoyed it. There are also several places to eat in the zoo, although you might want to bring your own lunch to avoid the extra cost, plus they don't exactly have anything very healthy.
ETA: bronx zoo has several indoor exhibits.

I love Bronz Zoo.. it's the best BUT with a 1 YO, I'm assuming he isn't going to last an entire day (which wouldn't even be enough time to cover the entire thing)..
Queens Zoo is great but I personally love the Central Park Zoo..

Central Park Zoo.
They have a cute petting zoo area and it's the perfect size, not too small, not too big and super clean!

I agree! And on a weekday the kids zoo won't be packed so it should be perfect (on the weekends, it's just a stroller traffic ham).

I third the Queens Zoo - it was perfect. Enough to keep DS entertained and not so long that it's exhausting. Plus, the carousel is right there. As Kara said - bring your own lunch....no real food there.
